I had a recent weight gain of almost 40 lbs. I started with a personal trainer and p90x at home. The personal trainer had me doing 50 min of cardio. 10 min of reps. P90x I felt like I had the better workout by far. And I noticed I got stronger and had muscle … but underneath loose skin. And no weight loss at all. Any suggestions? I’m at that point where I’m feeling discouraged and want to stop even though I know I shouldn’t.
Oh, and this has been within the past 3 months … my weight stays between 178-182 but never above or below that.

Hmmmm….. This is going to depend a lot on your age and genetics.
Of course make sure you are well hydrated and you have plenty of collagen building nutrients in your diet and vitamins that are good for your skin. Your skin may gradually snap back on its own. I’m not sure how long it takes. Probably depends on a lot of factors like how much etc etc.
That being said, if your skin doesn’t tighten on its own the only alternative is surgery. What kind depends on areas and how much loose skin there is. You would need to talk to a plastic surgeon. It sounds like this is the route you may have to take.
As far as the issue of not losing weight. Muscle does weigh more than fat, but you are doing quite a bit of cardio. I would talk to your personal trainer as they know your body/build and would be able to give you better advice. Perhaps you just have a heavier athletic build?

Thanks. I dunno I’m going to keep trying and see what happens in a month or two. I love that I can feel muscles again but I’ve never been this big or had this much extra flabbiness so themuscles are great but the flabs discouraging and I don’t want to go so extreme with surgery. I don’t feel like it’s necessary for my size (12). And it’s my arms (of course) which have only recently been a problem after this weight gain and my thighs which I’ve never been able to get toned and tight no matter what size I was.

Have you ever heard of resistance bands? They’re basically stretchy latex bands that you can use for a ton of at home exercises. You can get them at any health store or sometimes online pretty cheap – like $15 or less. Hold one end with your foot and pull up from behind you – do several sets of these a day and it’ll help strengthen your under arm without feeling like you’re really exercising. You can also fold the band in half and get double the resistance if you want more. Good luck!!

@Immacoconut: are you doing them with the band from behind or in front of your arm? I know it’s an odd question – but depending on which way you hold the band, it’ll work different muscles.
I went to DB today and tried on a few more dresses, and actually committed to her. I came home and looked at pics of me in the dress, and almost cried. My arms look HIDEOUS … I’ve got a little over 9 months to get it right .. I will have my resistance band in my purse every day if I have to!
