- Wedding: April 2015 - Plantation Gardens, Kauai HI
I just got engaged!!! (YAY!!) We have planned to have a short engagement and get married in October, so the important decisions of wedding planning need to happen pretty soon – ie venue, date, budget and…wedding party. And that’s where it get’s tricky. I have mostly male friends (I’m what some refer to as a “fruit fly”, so most are gay men!) so I really am set on having my sister and a few boys in my bridal party. My fiance also has mostly guys that he’d like on his side, with one girl. I am not planning a super traditional wedding (we live in the SF Bay Area), so I’m not worried about the traditional aspect of it. We really want the important people in our lives standing next to us on each side as we make this big committment, no matter their gender 🙂 I am more wondering, um, asthetically how I’ll pull it off?
I know that I want my best (guy) friend standing next to me. And his best man is also a guy. So as of now we have 2 guys and one girl each. We also have two others that we are deciding on….a girl for my side and a guy for his. What’s everyone’s opinion on how we should place them? I know I shouldn’t care about what it looks like, but well, I do. I was thinking maybe each of us have guy, girl, guy on each side? But if we add a girl on my side and a guy on the other that would make it uneven! Thoughts?
Also, ATTIRE! I am a huge fan of mismatched bridesmaid dresses but am not sure how this would work with the wedding party. I’ve seen this in pictures and feel it looks really disorganized when everyone is extremely mismatched on both sides. I was thinking of maybe doing a matching maxi skirt for all of the girls and they choose their (similar colored) tops and then the guys wear a similar color pants (to the maxi skirts) with a shirt/vest/tie combo that works with the girl’s tops. My fiance would wear a suit w/ jacket. OR, I could have the people on my side wearing one color (pastel/nude colors might work with the guys?) and the grooms party wear black bottom/white top, and maybe try to pull off a cute black skirt/white top with tie for the gal on his side! What would look the least…strange? And any other cute ideas?
