@Laurenplusalex:  I would politely explain that while you love their dog (lie if you must) you unfortunately have a very full schedule this semester and you don’t have the free time you did before the holidays.

Also, how annoying that he calls at 8 pm the night before they would need you to take care of the dog for the week?!

At this point, i think I would just let it go. If they want they can work it out with you, but you did your best to explain what you need, and that you could not work for them anymore. it doesn’t sound like you are being unreasonable. You even told them you would still take care of the dog. If they bring it up I would just tell them I was sorry, but there must have been some miscommunication because you never agreed to that.
