I am confused.  Why order twice as many dinner plates as there are people??  I might see ordering some extra cocktail or cake plates if people pick them up andset them down and then lose theirs, but not extra dinner plates and not twice as many…

If they run out of cocktail plates, people will use napkins.  If the cake will be cut and put before everyone, I doubt you need extra.

I would take your caterer’s word for it and use her numbers.  She’s a professional and presumably knows what she’s talking about.

Oh.  Well, I think people can reuse plates.  I also think fewer than you think will go back through the line.  So maybe 120-125 instead of 210 – that gives 20-25% overage.

I would use exactly your caterer’s number.  We did buffet also, not one person used a second plate.

Also, we didn’t even use cocktail plates, as all of our appetizers were passed finger foods, so we just used cocktail napkins.
