Do you have any friends/family in the area to check with about recommendations? You could also check with the folks at your venue, they might have an idea of stylists/salons around the area. I also might try searching on Martha Stewart's wedding site for vendor recommendations. I know I browsed these recommendations when we were looking for photographers. You just select the type of vendor you're looking for and input your city/zip code:

I found a lot of my vendors through Weddingwire, I contacted vendors with good reviews. Project Wedding also has this feature.
Here's the link to the vendor search portion of Project Wedding. We used this as well: http://www.projectwedding.com/vendor/choose_area?return_params%5Baction%5D=find&return_params%5Bcontroller%5D=vendor

I am getting married on the North Fork of LI, and I'm not that familiar with the area. I have been asking around for recommendations for hair and makeup, but I'm not getting much in the way of advice!!! How did all of you find your people?? I find that this is an area it's really tough to get advice on!
