Congrats! We share a wedding date. :) I think it's most helpful to figure out a style that you want (indoor, formal, outdoor, whimsical, etc.) and then go from there. Do lots of online searches, read reviews, and make calls to all of your vendors with lots of questions. Take a look at this board, since it concentrates on the Reno/Tahoe area. Other Tahoe brides might be more helpful when it comes to venues and whatnot.

Just personalize it to your own style and have fun!
THank you so much, and congratulations to you! We have decided we want the ceremony outside with the reception indoors. We knlow the type of theme/atmosphere aswell. We are doing lots of internet searches, I guess that's the way to go!
My fiance is from Chicago, and we are both Italian. I think it's pretty cool that my first post was responded to by ItaliaBride from Chicago!!
Thanks and best!
Hi, JBelle17, and welcome! Probably the first thing you'll need to figure out is the general location you want to have your wedding (e.g. north, south or west shores). Once you pick that, I can help you with some venue recs; you definitely want to get jumping on it, though. Wedding slots fill up fast around here!
In general, you'll find North shore to be more secluded and a little less touristy; the South shore is bigger (population-wise), a little more touristy but also has more varied activities; and the West shore will be more easily accessible to Sac and the Bay Area, and more like the North Shore in terms of night life and party atmosphere.
You might also check out the vendor sticky at the top of the local Reno/Tahoe board for some venue suggestions!
@JBelle1Z: I'm getting married at South Lake in 4 weeks (eeep!) and we're doing the ceremony and reception at Edgewood Golf Course. As ours will be in February, we obviously are doing everything inside, but they have a lovely space to do the ceremony outside and the reception inside. Definitely worth checking out! www.edgewoodtahoe.com
I'm from Reno but planning the wedding from Boston so can empathize with the 'destination' planning! Let me know if there is any way I can help, even if it's just to answer questions or tell you which vendors I've used.
Good luck!
@MrsTahoe: Edgewood is beautiful, and with the weather being what it has been this winter, you'll have gorgeous views of the lake! Great venue choice. :)
@JBelle1Z: I started planning my September Tahoe wedding in October and I was really shocked to find out that that most venues were all booked up! It was only 2 months after our engagement, so I thought I still had plenty of time. I immediately booked appts that following weekend and told my fiance that we needed to make our decision afterwards. We are renting a private home in Incline Village. The soonest available date they had was 9/15/12. My suggestion is to start calling and make appts with locations that actually have dates you want to get married. The caterer we reserved had a cancelation for our wedding date, so we were able to get him luckily, but it is a good example of how fast things get booked up there! Vendors and venues are limited, so you need to get started right-away!!! Now, I only have a few minor things left to figure out.

Hello,
My fiance and I are planning a wedding for Sept, 2012, and we are at the beginning. The only thing we know is we want to get married (to each other) in Tahoe in September.
Can you tell me how to start looking and booking a venue? We live 4 hours away, and will be doing most over the internet, with a handful of trips in between.
Any advice/recommendations/tips/hints are welcome and appreciated.
Thank you!
