Hey fellow bees, I have a pretty common dilemma – I don’t know which dress to choose. Currently I have three top picks:
The first one was NOT want I thought I wanted. It’s a taffeta mermaid gown w/ ruching and a sweatheart neckline. I was really against taffeta and satin from the start, but this one fit like a glove and I find myself really attracted to it. This is from a custom bridal shop, so even though it may have similar styles to popular dress, everything is hand made and customized (which also means $$$), there’s a sample sale next month (40% off), so if I choose this, I could save a bit of money.
The second one was the dress that I’ve been admiring online for months. Like dreaming about it and everything. Sweetheart swiss dot tull a-line ruffly goodness of a dress. But once I tried it on, while I felt really comfortable and happy, I also felt slightly disappointed. This could be because the dress was 3 sizes too big and my bridesmaids had to hold it back to give me a good idea of how it’d look. It’s a lovely dress, but I know many brides pick it, and I wonder if it works for me or not…I still absolutely love the dress though.
This dress keeps growing on me. It has ruched tulle on the bodice and down to the knee over lace, the skirt is a gorgeous sea of ruffles. When I first tried it on, I felt confused (it was right after I tried on swiss dot tull dress) it wasn’t what I thought, but everytime I look at it, I like it more and more. My bridesmaids are holding down the skirt because I’m 5 foot nothing and the top of the skirt was poofing up like a shelf, so I wanted to see if the skirt would be more gradual. I love the stays/boning in this dress – the problem is that it would need a few alterations – I want the top to be sweetheard (it’s pinned in the picture), the skirt to be tacked down to make it more gradual, and theres the hemming! I need about 5 inches taken off.
So those are my top 3 as of right now. I’m torn because Fiance says our budget is $1500 but I would like to keep it around $500 (I don’t know if I can stomach a heavy price tag). Number 2 is around my ideal budget, but it’s not exactly what I imagined – I LOVE ivory and I think the white colour is holding me back. Number 3 is double number 2, but a couple hundred less than number 1. The kicker – w/ all of the alterations, number 3 will probably end up around number 1’s price, and number 1’s price includes the alterations (isn’t that awesome? lol)
Any help? And any tips on keeping costs down when it comes to alterations? (Oh, I forgot – number 2 comes in petite and that’s one of the things I loved about the dress). And any petite brides that had to have their dress hemmed like crazy – what was the cost of the hemming?
