I like the Locust Grove better because of the outdoor garden. But I think you should book the venue that you like best AND can comfortably afford.

I'm planning on getting married September on 2012 and am trying to decide on my venue. It hasn't been easy! I orginally booked Catskill Point, it was everything I was looking for in my venue. It is a historic open air warehouse located directly on the Hudson River with great views and A real blank slate for decorating, very flexible. We would be having our ceremony on the pier and the reception inside the warehouse. It was great until I took my mother and future in-laws there to look at it. They managed to point out all of its flaws. The issues: Parking-not a lot of space and a distance to walk, the bathrooms are located in a side building and not the actual location, and if the weather isn't great it could be a huge issue aka too cold or too hot its an open air building with no heat or a/c, also it is a bit of a distance for most of my guest (1hr-1.5hr).
Catskill Point
After considering all of the negatives I decided to look around a little more. I came across and really liked Locust Grove in Poughkeepsie which is the Historic Samuel Morse Estate. It has all the amentities the Catskill Point lacked such as more convenviant bathrooms, parking, location (only .5-1hr from most guests) and It has a true indoor space to protect from the elements while still having an outdoor feel. We would have the ceremony in the gardens and the reception inside. I really like it, but feel that it lacks a certain uniqueness the Catskill Point has. It has a do-able, but significantly higher price tag and we are on a budget. They are also pretty strict about decorations and is a much smaller space where we would be at maximum capacity, but should still be comfortable
