I was out shopping the other day and even when i sorta liked something the photos came back and i looked horrid in them i looked twice my size and about a 3 feet tall.
Sorry I don't know how to rotate them on a mac
I dunno what to do I can't find a thing and everyone keeps telling me to wear A line but it looks horrid. Does anyone know where I can find plus size non A line dresses in the Greater Toronto Area (perferably east end)
Thanks.
I actually think #1 and 3 look great! You def dont look like a sausage :D No recommendations for places in your area, sorry. Did you try on any with a sash to excentuate your waist? That made a huge difference in my dress!!
\
I love the third dress it really flatters you :) I think you look great! We all pick on our "so called flaws" way more than anyone else ever would. You will be a beautiful bride no matter what dress you pick.
I actually think dress 3 looks really good and flattering!
My suggestion though would be to try on chiffon dresses. They are VERY forgiving and if you get an empire waist it will make you look taller. :) I can try and find examples but I'm not quick like some of the other bees! haha.
Also, try a different style if you're unhappy with the more a-line or ballgown-y looks.
I reeaaaalllyy like #3 as well! It accentuates your small waist!!
This one I have never seen anyone look bad in. It was my 2nd choice, but didn't really fit my venue. :) It's chiffon.

My advice... fit and flare gowns can actually be super flattering on us plus size ladies... Try atleast a couple of those on and see if it makes a difference
I've seen sausage and you look nothing like sausage.
Number 3 looks uhhh--MAZING! rock it!
I think the first and third ones look pretty good on you, especially #3. With your shape, I would suggest something that defines your waist, either ruching or like PP posted, maybe a sash on a natural waist dress that has an a-line skirt. To keep your chest/torso from looking too broad, stick to a sweetheart neckline. Sleeves tend to make people look heavier (sometimes) and a straight neckline will make you look wider and more top heavy. Be careful with an empire waist if you have any belly (I'm a size 12 with a pooch and empire waists make me look like I'm 4-5 months along.) Also, since you say you look 'short,' don't go too full on the skirt or it will shrink you more! HTH!
Thanks everyone I was feeling really bad about the dress. The 3rd one was the only one I liked on me i have a shot from the back too
The strap broke when the woman was doing it up so yes that is my sucky inny thingy underneath.
So if i'm fallowing the suggestions i should look for an empire waist(possibly) a line with a belt and sweetheart neckline?
OMG I ordered the 3 dress two weeks ago, I LOVE it! It is a beautiful dress.
I love love love that third one on you (Is it a Maggie?) I think it gives you just the right curves and shapes. You def don't look like a sausage in any of them.
I really like 1 but I could be biased as it looks similar to my dress :)
Thou I do like 3 as well I think I still prefer 1 as 3 seems to draw more attention to the chest and it is just not what I would wear so I think that is clouding my judgement :)
I sneakily asked FI and he said he liked 1 as well (phew) as it seemed blingier :)
BTW you don't look like a sausage :)
@tksjewelry: I actually don't know who made that one my friend wasn't overly for it when i was there so I didn't even look to see the price...
@amy.finden: Maybe you could help me out do you remember how much it was (if u don't mind me asking) and who made it because I'm pretty sure thats the same dress. Its very very cute on you.
I think they look fine on you (no sausage I can see) but if you're not comfortable then they're not the dress. Have you thought about trying a V-neck? It's usually not good for us plus sized chicks because of the emphasis of shoulders, but you have a large bust and a slender shoulder so it might have a slimming effect. Worth a try on at least. Here's some examples:
I paid 975 from a boutique, when I looked online later that day I saw it as low as 840 it is style number 3106, and thank you, I fell in love with the simplicity and the romatic feel...I thought i wanted ball gown, but I didn't like them when I tried them on. I love it on you, or something similiar if you don't love it....check out the mori lee line julietta i saw a lot of pretty styles for plus size.
@amy.finden: Thank you I may go back and try it again and take a heavy friend with me. Skinny friends who have never dealt with a pound out of place don't look at the same things heavier girls notice.
@emilygrace07: I do love V neck shirts I never though about looking for a V neck dress. I am slightly large in the chest (40I to be excate)
Would anyone know if a tighter fit would look right I have a large chest 40I and a bum that goes out like a mile behind me (but its perky yay for my shapeups (the running shoes do work)) I've always avoided it because of my stomach being flabby though but if i'm gonna be wearing spanx anyway. Has anyone got any advice or would i really feel like a stuffed susage if i tried that.
Dresses 1 and 3 look amazing and give you a nice small waist.
I really recommend davids bridal at eglinton and pharmacy. It is not way out in the east end, but pretty close. I had such a great experience there. Here are some pics of the dresses i tried on. I loved the fact that they had such a range of sizes so i never had to come out of the room with half of my back/butt exposed. I ended up going for the vera wang...(Just for reference i am a street size 18) I think you should just let the sales lady pick out a whole range of different styles and then try them all on to see how you feel in each of them. They also allow pics to be taken so it is great to take some and then come here to get objectve opinions.

This was the gown i picked :)

I think you look beautiful! I had similar feelings as you do. Lots of people tell you that if you're full figured you need an A-line. For my first trip dress shopping I had an amazing consultant who made sure I tried on literally every type of cut they offered so I could get an idea of what looked good on my body. And a true A-line wasn't it! I looked much better in empire waists and a slightly dropped waist!
So my suggestion is to try on all different types and find something you feel comfortable in because if you feel beautiful you will be beautiful!
The third dress absolutely looks the best on you, but I agree with the comment another gal made... try some fit and flare dresses as they will flatter your figure the best. Here are some examples of the styles that I feel best flatter plus sized gals. They are all from the Alfred Angelo collection :)

@teresa1083w: You look gorgeous! I loved loved The Vera Wang. So wanted to go pink because of that dress. You rock it!
@Mylnn: Trust me when I say you DO NOT look like a sausage. I felt the same way. We are always our toughest critic. You wear them all well. My favourite would be #3 because it accentuates all your beautiful curves.
PS. I have now purchased TWO (grrr) and still trying to decide but here are mine. I am a street size 18. Definitely agree that you should let the salesperson recommend a few. Even if she picks something that you wouldn't normally go for - just try it. You might be surprised!
Dress one is from David's Bridal.
Dress TWO is from Alfred Angelo

Everyone told me A-line was the most flattering all around, and it ended up not working on me. #3 is my favorite of the ones you tried on, but I agree with PP's that something more fitted might be the most flattering. As a gal with a tummy, I agree that empire waists did NOT look good on me, but it might work differently for you as you are much more blessed up top than I am. ;) If you don't feel comfortable in a mermaid, perhaps something with a fitted, dropped waist and a sash at your actual waistline might show off your figure best. I also agree about being open to things the consultant picks out even if you're not sure about it on the rack. I had some consultants who put me in things that weren't as flattering because the dress was more expensive, and I had a few amazing ones who really got what was best for my body even if I thought I wanted something else.
Keep at it and I'm sure you'll find something that shows you off and makes you feel beautiful and very un-sausage-y!
P.S. By dropped waist I was thinking of something like teresa1083w's gorgeous White by Vera Wang that she ended up choosing or like the picture in the upper right hand corner that @kelikala posted.
P.P.S. All you ladies who posted pics of yourself in your dresses look BEAUTIFUL!!!
You definitely look gorgeous in the third!! Everyone is telling me to go for an a-line as well, but I feel that I look quite bland in them - but I drown in anything with a big skirt coz i'm only 5 2"!!
For the time being i'm going to try on some mermaid dresses - not the really pronounced mermaid ones, but the ones that flare out slightly from your thighs. I hope it works out!
I think thats what make no. 3 good on you too: the fabric is gathered a little at the hips and then flows down very elegantly, it gently accentuates your curves just in the right places. and I must say: the back is Gorgeous!!!!!
You do not look like a sausage. I think #3 looks great on you. It's very flattering.
