whats your budget for photography? aka how much is officially "signing over your financial soul" ?
Here is another one of my dilemmas...
We are taking pictures around Chicago before the ceremony. I was hoping to get a photographer who has shot around the city before so the photog would know where to go for amazing city shots. Hence the reason why I am afraid to hire a photographer who is not located or has shot in the city before.
As far as budget... I get a little sick when I think of spending more than 3,000 for the whole package. I would ideally love to have two photographers, a disk with all our images, and probably 8 hours of time.
Okay, well first I have to suggest our photographers, a husband and wife team, Miller + Miller (mmfotos.com). The current pricing is $3499 (includes high-res disc of images and personal use license and unlimited time) and $250 more to include an engagement shoot. They are very experienced in downtown Chicago shoots and would know all the great places to go. I realize they are more than you want to spend so here are a more suggestions:

I recommend Anna Guziak (www.annaguziak.com). We used her for our wedding. She shoots with her husband, so you get two people, it was unlimited all day shooting. The package she had didn't have photos on CD, but we negotiated those instead of having them make a professional album. So I'm sure they can do the same for you.
We were married 1.5 years ago and back then the pricing was below your $3000 limit. I can't imagine they've bumped it up beyond that.
Also located in the Chicago area and takes pictues in the city often.
Best photographer in Chicago, longtime resident, does more than just weddings so she doesn't lose finding the "moment" - Ana Miyares.
She shot my sister, my sister's sister in law, my friend's best friend... She is amazing. I was scared I wouldn't be able to afford her but she has worked out a great package for us that is within you budget.
And since the photos are the only tangible thing left after the wedding, I feel like it is more important than the dress and worth the extra money. Believe me!

You should use Sarah Tilotta. Shes fabulous, I'm flying her down to LA just to use her for our wedding!
I am using Miller + Miller. They are great to work with and pretty reasonable given how talented they are!
Kate Botwinski Photography is amazing!! Her and her husband are based out of Minneapolis, but travel everywhere. Highly Highly recommend them!
