Often when people talk about “cuts” what they really mean is shape. The actual cut of a stone is very important because it has more of an effect on the sparkle than any other factor. This is true for fancy shapes as well.

Shank is just a technical term for the band of a ring..split shank means that the band is split into two and then merge into one. Its takes a while to learn the jewelry lingo youll get the hang of it!

Don’t feel bad I’m still clueless with this stuff! Probably more so than you!  I’m one that just enjoys the look of jewelry I get and don’t really know specs. Just continue to read things as you go – you’ll get the hang of it!
