So we’re getting married in just over two weeks! This has been a really stressful year planning the wedding. Everything that could go wrong seemed to. Though I know I’m just being dramatic it could of been MUCH worse!. About three weeks ago, I found out I’m pregnant. I’m 9weeks and 2 days today.
We orginally planned on waiting to take a honeymooon until we got our bonus checks in december and after our vacation renewed. The baby was very unexpected, and financially we’re not in the best situation. We have decent paying stable jobs but we are going to have to live with my parents after the wedding. (For about 6 months, orginally it was planned to save money for a down payment, now it’s because of the baby.) After these last few crazy weeks of freaking out, accepting our situation, freaking out again, and trying to figure out what we’re going to do; I figured we wouldn’t be able to take a honeymoon.
Tonight I decided that I do still want to take a vacation with my new husband, though I had to reel in my dreams and become much more realistic about what’s do-able.
I’ve tried to find deals but am having a really hard time coming up with options. I’m thinking we’ll go Mid-December for about 4 days. (Wednesday-Saturday to save vacation time). The only problem I’m having is we would want to go somewhere with decent weather, I.E NOT MINNESOTA! I’m thinking we can spend about $1,000 total. I can’t find anything for under $1,000 total. I’m losing hope that it’s even possible! Help!!
(Sorry for such a long rambling post to finally get to the entire point!)

have you tried uncommon places???? a long weekend somehwere fun?? the atlantic coastlines have plenty of cute towns you could try to find something… or there’s savanah, georgia….key west, florida….seaside, florida (or anywhere along scenic 30 A)… you might be able to find a cruise for 3 nights that could fit into your budget. you might even try a travel agent.
one more really nice option would be to register for your honeymoon instead of gifts. my friend did this and i wish we had also. we didn’t take a honeymoon and said we’d do it for our 1st anniversary, but it’s looking like now that isn’t going to happen either.
congrats on the baby!

Congrats on the pregnancy! I know Florida has some nice hidden gems if you want to go somewhere warm and sunny. I’m not 100% sure on flights, but you should be able to find a coastal town there with a decent priced B&B maybe.

Well I am a big believer that EVERYONE deserves a Honeymoon (or at least a Mini Moon)
To be honest, your idea of heading off for decent weather is a fair one considering December in Minnesota… BUT with a budget of just $ 1000 for the entire vacation getaway, I don’t think you’ll get very far
Example… I looked at Myrtle Beach, which I happen to know can be a fun city, and although it won’t be beach / swimming weather, it can be quite nice in December (this from a girl who lives in Canada and heads down to MB often just for a chance to get away from our horrid weather… lol, that and Mr TTR loves to golf). And MB isn’t crazy expensive in the off-season. Anyhow airfare mid December… Minneapolis to MB is going to cost you $ 450 return each… so no great bargain.
In my mind, MB is going to be one of the cheapest places to go down south at that time of year, and unfortunately it is still beyond your budget.
Sorry, but as I see it you either have to up your budget, or down your expectatoins.
Hope this helps (some),
*NOTE – I found really cheap flights to Orlando Florida for a Tuesday (Dec 10th) at $ 307, but I don’t particularly find Orlando (aka The Theme Parks) to be a cheap Destination, BUT the weather is good, and there is a ton to see and do. Fun Location.

@Sunshine1011: congrats on All your new transitions! would you two consider taking a cruise? Last time I looked online the prices were very reasonable. Good luck!

@This Time Round: Yeah I’m worried we won’t be able to find something but we have to go in December because I’ll be 5 months pregnant and I’d rather not wait longer because I’m sure I’ll be uncomfortable. We might be able to afford more than $1,000, it all just depends on our money after the wedding. I feel like we deserve it after the crazy year, but also have the mommy instinct kicking in and want to save as much money as possible before the baby comes.
@Jas00: We had talked about a cruise and I’m open to it just didn’t know if our limited time would work or not.

@Sunshine1011: What about Las Vegas? Even if you don’t like gambling it’s a pretty cool place to visit. I’ve been in December and was thrilled to see the sunshine! It’s pretty easy to get hotel deals there! Especially if you wait until Thanksgiving for Cyber Monday Deals!

@remijp: I’m not agansit vegas, I guess I really didn’t look into it because I always imagined going to vegas to party, even though I know there is plenty to do there.
