If you go to your profile (top right corner) you should be able to change your avatar.
a bump is what someone does if they want to bring a post to the front of the boards again, where it might get more attention/comments. Posts are displayed in order of most recent comment.

when you are typing your message, if you want to insert a picture, click the little box on the bar over the message box that looks like a picture (directly left of html) and just follow through from there.
