Hello bees! It just occured to me while perusing through some of the posts in here that I have not bothered to ask the church where FI and I are getting married on what types of music are appropriate...I had all my Mary J. Blige/K-Ci & Jojo/Robin Thicke/Stevie Wonder songs all planned out but even if secular music is allowed, how would one accomplish this is there wasn't a soloist?  Do you use a pre-recorded CD? And if you do that, do you have to let the song play all the way through?  And who would be in charge of playing the CD or stopping it at a certian point? OMG I'm going itno freak out mode...what did you ladies do, (or what are you planning on doing?)  FYI I don't have any money in my budget to hire a soloist not do I know of any friends or family who are talented enough to pull it off (and do it for free).

Ok, well first of all - breathe. Next, call your church and talk to the musical director or pastor/rabbi/officiant about this. You may be able to use their sound system (most churches have one) to play your CD/MP3, although if any of the songs have any, ahem, 'non-church' words in them I suggest getting the edited versions. I would say that you could ask a responsible family member who isn't a wedding party member, to take care of this for you - stopping and starting music when and where you want it. :)

    Bon Chance,

    Bella

Talk to the minister. The majority of churches only allow religious music that is found in the hymnals, because many consider it to be an actual worship service. Then some require that you use someone from their staff on the organ or piano, while others don't mind a cd. You won't know anything until you ask the right people.

Our church has super strict music rules. We have to use an organist and cantor from the church and no secular music is allowed before, during or after the ceremony.  They were very upfront about all the requirements, though.  Just call and ask! good luck!
