    Hello!!

I purchased the Gemma dress yesterday and I absolutely love, love, LOOOVE it! What a stunning piece of art!

I am 5 5" and I tried on the size 10 store sample, which is made for a 5 9" girl. I wore it with a pair of 5.5 inch heels and it was still a couple of inches long (I could not walk in it without tripping). I am between a size 6 and an 8 so the sales ladies put in the order for a size 8 to have room for alterations and said this size will be about 1.5 inches shorter which would probably mean it would still need to be shortened by an inch or so, if I wear 5.5 inch heels.

    There are two options:

    1) Either I committ to wearing 5-6 inch heels and i just shorten the size 8 by 1-2 inches (which means less fabric at the beautiful bottom) OR

    2) I committ to wearing 3-3.5 inch heels which means that I can order the dress with 3 inches less taken out from THE BODICE  (not from the bottom). This means that the dress will be custom ordered so that the mermaid bottom would start from 3 inches higher from wear it starts now. This has its prons and cons.

I want to wear AT LEAST 4.5 inch shoes but contrary to the sales ladies who say that the secodn option would be TOO short with 4.5 inch shoes, I really believe that it would work.

Has anyone done this before with the Gemma dress?! I am not sure which way to go and I need to decide by tomorrow before they place the order!

    Thank you Gemma Brides!

Hi! I am also about 5'5" and had the same dilemma about shortening the dress. I decided to leave the dress as is, rather than pay $300 to have it shortened by the 3" because the alterationist would hem the dress from the top of the skirt, not the bottom (i.e., you wouldn't lose any of the skirt, and it would in essence be the same as having the dress come 3" shorter). Since I would likely have to have the dress shortened a bit either way to exactly match my height with shoes, I figured it wasn't worth the extra $300. Hope that helps!

@PeachBee:  Hi! Thank you for your comment! I also decided to leave it as it is. As you said, it is mroe expensive but also the lade there was adamant about leaving it the way it is, insisting it would be way to short for me if I want to wear high heels. I want to have more flexibility witht he shoe height so it is better to shorten it from the skirt. I hope it works out with yours. I will let you know how it turns out when it arrives in June. Thanks, again!
