My DF and I are getting married in Des Moines on the 16th at the Botanical center and we realized last night we do not have witnesses. Would any of you be available for 15 or 20 minutes to witness our ceremony? I know it’s a huge favor for someone you do not know but I knew if I had a shot it would be with the peas. . .
TIA and if not, I COMPLETELY understand.

If you are still looking for witnesses, I would try contacting “One Iowa” (a big LGBT advocacy organization with offices in Des Moines), they may very well be able to help you out. Also, I would ask your officiant, and possibly ask the staff at the botanical center to see if they could connect you with some witnesses. I truly wish you the best of luck!

Ohhh I wish I were still in Des Moines I totally would!! I am most certain that some of the botanical center volunteers (gift shop, front office) would stand in as well if you needed. Congratulations!! Let me know if you want any suggestions on anything in the area 🙂

You only need to have one witness with you when you apply for the marriage license. I suspect that your officiant could help you find someone.
Sorry I’m nowhere near Iowa, or I’d be glad to help!

Oh wow, thank you guys. I didn’t even think about one Iowa! Duh! And 2nd Bride we’re doing the application here and mailing it in due to the 3 day waiting period. I called the county and for the actual ceremony we have to have two witnesses. Scq00387, I would LOVE some ideas on what to do, we have no clue. Lol. I was thinking if pushed came to shove we could always just ask some random people at the center! lol

I wish you were coming to Council Bluffs. If you are open to it, Ames (20 min from DM) host Iowa State and they have a very active gay/lesbian/transgender group on campus, you might give them a call. Usually they have an office at the student union.

ok tks, I’ll look into that. Beau Fodor is supposed to be helping me with with the planning stuff so I’ll have to see if he’s willing to shift the plans around.
