I think Apple is the only one that can work on them... I haven't heard of any other places that can repair Apple products. :(
I saw RapidRepair and a few others when I googled it...I'm just not sure about sending to any of them...Just wondering if anyone else had ever sent theirs out for repair? Any advice/what to watch for etc?
When my iPod crashed (and the Sad Mac came up), I took it to Apple. They told me it would cost more to repair than to replace, so I bought a new one. If you turn your old one in, you get 10% off your new one!
I might at least see if the Apple store will appraise how much the repairs will cost. I know my sister had the same experience as krazeekat--it was cheaper to replace than to repair, so she took the discount and bought a new one. IME, Apple has pretty good customer service, so they might be able to help you out. You also mentioned that he broke his iPod in Iraq--it might be worth checking to see if they offer any military discounts on new products.
I agree with the other posters, it's well worth going to the Genius bar at Apple and seeing how much it'd cost to repair. I'm guessing you're no longer under warranty otherwise this wouldn't be as much of an issue (depending on how you broke it).
Oh I highly doubt it's under warranty considering it was in Iraq...lol dust storms probably don't help the situation. And I know for a fact he was leaving it in his truck before he left (hello we live in TX! It's HOT here in the summer!) so like I said. I doubt it will be covered. I'm not big on going to Apple. They screwed me when I took my iPod to them. So other than Apple...anyone know any good repair places?
Aw, that's a shame. Hmm, otherwise I know of a great place here in central London but I don't think it's worth you taking the trip out just to go to a repair place! ;) Have you checked computer stores and stuff? I know here a lot of places like PC World do iPod repairs.

Hey bees!
Hubs broke his iPod quite a while ago (like when he was in Iraq over a year now) and he keeps stealing mine. Anyone know of a good place to send it/take it for repair? I have no clue what is wrong with it. I don't want to take it to Apple because I'm sure it will be a fortune to have them repair it and let's face it, with the ceremony coming up, the cash just isn't there to spend on his iPod...I should've just gotten him a new one for Christmas. :(
