nycruby - In order for us to help you, can you please describe what it is that you're looking for in a venue?

    Number of people?

    Dinner or brunch reception?

    Budget?

    Type of location?

What have you already researched that isn't working for you?

I am currently looking at venues in NYC too. I looked at the Lighthouse this weekend and it was beautiful. The space was too large for us (100ppl) but it will definately fit 200 people comfortably and they are within your budget range. The cost included 6 hor dorves during cocktail hour, plus 2 stations, 4 course sit down dinner with 2 main course choices and theres no cutting fee.

Also 3 West club was nice and very flexible with price. The cocktail, ceremony and reception area were on 3 different floors, accessible by 2 small elevators, so that's why we passed on it.

Also don't forget to take into account 20% gratuity and 8.375% tax in your budget per person.

yes definitely! have you considered some non traditional places outside of manhattan? sites that come to mind are: the foundry and metropolitan building in queens or the tobacco warehouse in brooklyn. another surprisingly reasonable venue was tavern on the green. or long island? jericho terrace, fox hollow, leonard's?

i know where you're coming from, i'm planning a nyc wedding for 300-400. help! is it possible to find a venue in nyc? : wedding venue help site new york reception Icon Eek

We were quoted $135 for an August '08 wedding and $125 for 3 West Club (2 entree choices +$5, 3 entree choices +$8)

If you can go outside of the city try, Beckwith Pointe in New Rochelle,  For April 2008, it was about $100pp, incl. premium open bar 5 hour reception.  You'll have an gorgeous venue and the food is one of the selling points.  Ceremony was $500 extra.

does the 3 west club really only accomodate 150 people for dinner and dancing?

how far is new rochelle from NYC?  is the space easy to get to?

Yea, I would say 150 is the max 3 West Club can fit. It's not a huge venue and actually it's the Women's Republican Club. There are a lot of pictures of past Republican presidents but none of them bothered me too much, except the Bush one and they said it could be removed for the event. But of course, that is based on personal preference.

Try Chateau Briand in Long Island : ) The place looks amazing and it costs about $98 per person, and after you meet your guarantee, each vendor & kid costs $62! They can fit up to 500 too!

Hi nycruby!  When I was looking for venues I was frustrated with the $200+/head quotes I was getting from NYC places that could hold over 200 people.  I ventured out from the city a bit and I'm getting married at The Fountainhead in New Rochelle.

I didn't know this when I booked The Fountainhead, but my DOC told me that New Rochelle is actually a great alternative to NYC with better prices - VIP, Surf Club, Beckwith, Glen Island, and Fountainhead are all close to each other with gorgeous facilities, and great service, at around the same prices.

New Rochelle is in Westchester County, NY.  I'm not sure how far the other venues are but The Fountainhead is about a 20 minute drive from midtown Manhattan (we timed it).  But as most of our guests are from out of town and are staying in the city, we are actually hiring a charter bus to shuttle them to and from the venue.  Please let me know if you have any other questions!

You should also check out the Puck Building - it's a loft space, with a 1920's art deco structure.
