My eldest niece will be my jr bridelady. She just turned 12 and will be 13 when the wedding occurs. She is very wise for her age and shockes me with her grownup ideas, she has been very helpful in planning the wedding. So I would really like to empower for to choose her own dress for the wedding. I have asked my mum and bride ladies to select a gown following certain guidelines. So I would really like to extend that to her, but she can be really shy. She is tall for her age and a self-proclaimed “emo” (ah, to be a pre-teen again). I see her as a stunning young woman.
I want her to wear a dress that she likes, but she can be really shy about expressing her opinion.
How could I over the next year, get her to open up and explore what she likes in dresses to be able to choose the dress she wears.
Bees! Lend your advice!!!!

Over the next year can you make opportunities to bring her shopping (for wedding clothes and non wedding clothes)? While you are shopping you can select a couple of items and ask her for her opinion on each one. Or you could ask someone you know she trusts to take her shopping for her bridemaid dress, hopefully she would be honest with someone she already trusts.

@orangefairy: Thank you so much for your suggestions. I’ve offered to take her back to school shopping. I think I’ll be better able to get an idea of what she likes. She is tall and thin so most styles will flatter her. I’m going to talk more with my sister to see what she thinks her daughter likes.

Oh kay! so I was self procalimed emo at 13-14 lol It lasted too long lol…
1st off she is going to change so much between now and the wedding physically and mentally. I wouldn’t even get her dress till July of 2013 !
In that time I’d just ask her to make a folder on a computure/pintrest something like that of dresses she likes. Then when the time comes take a specail day and go out with her! you’ll both figure it out and find something!
I have 10 JR Bridesmaids so I get ya on this one! !
