    Hi everyone!

I am looking for some insight, HELP!  I just received my veil today (ordered from Etsy).  It is a beautiful veil, but much longer than what I was envisioning.  I wanted a birdcage, but am now thinking that maybe what I really want is a mini birdcage or even just a teardrop that only covers one eye.  I LOVE the fascinator that came with this veil, and am now torn on what to do.

    A) Send it all back (designer is great and offers full refunds)

    B) Try and alter the veil to make it shorter

    C) Just wear the fascinator/satin rose without a veil

    D) Wear the veil 'upside down/backwards'. (I flipped it up and over the fascinator to see what the look would be like after the "You may kiss your bride", and was surprised that I kind of like the look of the veil just hanging down the back over the flower.

I think that I am going to wear my hair 1/2 up (sides pulled back) probably large curls/waves, my hair is fairly long, about two inches below my shoulders, and I am hoping to grow it out an inch or two more for the wedding.

Opinions please...Veil or no veil, just wear the satin rose fascinator. Keep the birdcage longer, or try and alter it to a teardrop (or buy a teardrop). Wear the birdcage 'backwards' as a shoulder length veil down the back of my hair.

And anyone have any help on how to alter the veil length, I would love your advice!! Or styling tips for wearing the longer veil as a birdcage, but getting a more angled/shorter look.

Attached are pics of the veil I bought (from the etsy listing..but bear in mind that the lenght actually drops to below my chin, not sure how she achieved this look on the manequin), a teardrop example, and a couple of my dress (excuse the bad lighting).HELP!! Do you have any pics with the veil on your head? If we can see where you initially positioned it, we may be able to offer specific suggestions.

@AnnieAAA:  Please forgive the awful lighting and composition, I literally just snapped these on my Blackberry.

    1) Veil positioned with gather on the side of my head, fascinator over the gather, falling chin length (see that other side that sticks out...no idea what to do with that)

    2) Veil positioned on side of my head, fascinator over the 'new gather' (I tied off about 5-7" that you can't see to shorten it).  More angled, shorter look (I'm not a huge fan of that poof, but I'm sure that would go away if I really altered it by trimming the length)...Just have no idea how to go about that

    3) Veil worn 'backward' under the fascinator at the back of my head

    4) Fascinator alone

    Thanks for offering your help!!

I like the second way the best. It doesn't look too long, actually. =]

I think I like the last picture best. I'm not a fan of the longer birdcages.

I didn't vote b/c I think that maybe the seller sent it a little longer on purpose. I think you can very easily figure out how you plan to position it on the day of...then trim it to the length you want it to be.

@JamaicaBride: Any advice on the trimming process?  I am afraid to take scissors to it, knowing my lack of DIY skills when it comes to fabrics. :)

@brandylynnp: I just trimmed my sister's birdcage with a pair of scissors. She put it on, and we positioned it how she liked it best...and then I just trimmed material off until she was satisfied with how it looked. Once we got it trimmed properly, I took a picture of it so that I could remember how to position it the day of. Find someone with a steady hand and go for it. The key is to remove a little bit at a time.

what about tilted to your other ear - so not backwards, just slightly tilted so the veil goes over your forehead?

@ms. rice crispy treat: I have been trying that lately, and working around with it in different ways.  Now I am thinking I may totally switch to a floor length or chapel length train and ditch the birdcage.  Never thought I would, but lately I have been having some veil regret.  Luckily I got this one on ebay, so it wasn't too expensive, and it came with a fascinator so I can rationalize that the $$ was for the flower, and now I still need a veil.. :)

I think I will have to compare the two styles with the dress, and just go with my gut.  With this birdcage though, my sis is going to have to 'hem' it... We will see how that goes. :)
