Your venue and your dress certainly have different styles. However, if you LOVE that dress and it's the dress that you want and are going to feel gorgeous in, then wear that dress! If you can make a wedding in a barn beautiful and have "rustic elegance" (and your venue looks gorgeous!), then by god, you can have "rustic princessy-ness" too!
But if you are going to be worried about not matching the decor the whole time or you think it is going to stress you out for the next 5 months, then maybe look into another dress that fits your princess dreams with your rustic venue.
I think the key to this post is that you've always dreamed of a big ballgown with bling. If that's what you've always wanted AND what you picked out, then go for it. I understand wanting to match the style of the venue, but if you LOVE the dress, then who cares?!
I think this whole thing of the dress matching the venue can be a little silly.
The decor can be the "rustic", you can be the "elegance".
I agree with julies1949. I think your venue looks fabulous and the dress is amazing. You picked a dress you love and it is very romantic looking (IMO). You are the bride, you are not going to clash with the rest of the day.
I have a very rustic location and a very elegant, blingy dress. I didn't hesitate for one minute either. If you love it, and it's your dream dress, wear it! You get to do this once (hopefully) so wear what makes you happy!
Thank you ladies, you made me feel so much better...Romantic? I never thought of that, but now that you mention it...I agree :)
Seriously, I don't see any problems with your dress and the venue. I think your dress is very appropriate for the venue. I am not sure why you thought they don't match. But I were one of the guests, I would not feel strange when I see your dress and the venue.
I think it works. You're the bride. You set the tone for the day, so there's no way you can be wearing the wrong thing.
You guys made me feel soooo much better, thank you thank you thank you for your input!!
weddings are however you want them :)
It's a day when you should feel over the moon happy and if that means wearing a stunning dress to a uniquely beautiful venue then you do IT!
Remember to smile and BEE happy, it's your wedding day your planning! <3
Go with what you want. If you've always dreamed of having a ball gown, that's what you should get! You'll regret it otherwise.
I think your dress looks fine with the venue. Maybe it would look a bit out of place if you were having a casual backyard BBQ reception, but you're not so I think it's fine. If you're really having dress doubts, keep looking, but don't throw away the dress of your dreams just because you're afraid it will clash with the venue (because it doesn't :)).
I had a similar post with a similar problem. I am keeping the dress & the venue & am trying to bring the 2 styles together in the decor. Not too much bling in the decor but maybe chandeliers or crystals sprinkled on the tables with burlap runners & flowers in mason jars. It might look awful or great. I am going to do a mock up table in advance to see. I wonder if crystal chandelier type candleabras will look ok with mason jar vases...

Our venue/theme we wanted was very "rustic elegant" think classy barn...the problem was/is, i have always dreamed of....the princess ballgown and bling...
Here are some of the pics below of the ceremony area, barn reception, and the model in my dress...please help me decide on what to do...
for the barn decor think galvanized milk pails with flowers, mason jars with candles and the birch branches with tealights hanging...do I need to change my dress?????
