I was just wondering if anyone has ordered a Maggie Sottero/ Sottero & Midgley in the Petite?

My question is: Is it only the length on the bottom that is shorter, or is the whole dress shorter in different areas?

I am barely 5 feet tall, and I know that I will have to order it in petite based on length  but I haven't been able to try any of the Maggie's on in petite. I have tried on a few and I liked the way some made me look longer in my torso area. I am worried about ordering it and then it doesn't look the same!

    Thank you!!

Hey Lindy-  it sounds like we're height twins! I'm only 4'11", and I did order my Maggie in Petite. According to the bridal salon, the length is 3 inches shorter only in the front (because I have a train, if you do not I imagine it would be 3 inches shorter all over). It will be a little smaller overall, like the consultant told me the drop waist on mine might come up about an inch, but that was because of the smaller size (a 6 vs the 10 I tried on). I wouldn't worry about it looking way different, I don't think you will notice :)

Thank you! It's so hard being 4'11" and getting the idea of how it will really look, because we try on dresses that are soooo much longer on us!! The whole reason I was originally drawn to Maggie dresses is because they actually come in petite which is hard to find! I could only imagine how much dress I would end up chopping off if it wasn't petite, adding a lot more to the cost too!

@LindyC: I think you should order the petite for sure.

My advice for taller brides however, is do NOT order the petite length.  I'm 5'4" and ordered the petite.  My consultant told me it would be a perfect length with heels, and I wouldn't need to do any hemming.  So my dress just came in, and its waaaaay too short with the beautiful shoes I picked out.  In fact, the seamstress gave me a 1/2" heel allowance, basically flats.

For your height though, I think it will be perfect with heels.

I wish I could help. I ordered a petite Casablanca and it fits me perfectly. I'm 5'1" but I'm wearing 3.5 inch heels. My dress is empire waisted, so I'm not sure if the cut is really different. I would hope so though because it's not like I just have shorter legs than most people. I'm smaller all over.

I am 5'2 for what it helps, and I did not order petite, just had it hemmed (corset back) and the straps shortened, and I think it looked just fine!! Best of luck.

You can really order Maggie Sottero/Midgley dresses petite length?  My bridal store never told me that.

Jenny -  yea my store didn't tell me that either, they're probably looking forward to charging you more for cutting more length :P I just called back the next day before they placed the order and asked if they could order in petite, and they said sure.

I'm 4'9" and it was very quickly established by my consultant before I even tried my Maggie on we would be ordering the petite length.  I will still have to have it hemmed even shorter when it comes in and I start my fittings...I'm sure you will too if you order the petite length.  And it's definately only the length that's 3" shorter-the proportions of the dress will not change.  Casablanca does a hollow to hem measurement where it's made according to your measurements/proportions, but maggie doesn't do that.  Good luck!

I'm 5'4" and ordered a Maggie in petite.  I wore 4" heels with no alterations and it hit the floor perfectly.

I'm so angry b/c after seeing someone else's post on here, I specifically asked about ordering my fiorella in petite and they told me I didn't need it petite. I am 5'2 and will wear 4" heels. Ugh. Little do they know, I am not having it altered there anyway. Jerks!

@LindyC: The petit just comes in 3" shorter than the regular length. It is not shorter in the bodice etc. Your seamstress will have to do those alterations for you (if you need them).

I am 'almost' 5'3" and I ordered a S&M in petite. I am wearing 2.5" heels and still need over an inch taken off at the hem. The dropped waist was fine on me; however, I need some of the top of the bodice taken down on me (it comes up too high).

    Hope this helps!

I am 5'6"  I have a Sottero & Midgley size 8 petite.  I had my shoes when I had the sample on and the seemstress said I would be fine ordering the petite (my shoes have a 2 1/4 inch heel).  The petite really just means that they will take 3" off the bottom for free.  I got it back and it is perfect.  I do not need to have it taken up at all.  This is seriously saving me a lot of $ in the alteration department.  If I would have had heels any higher though I would have had to get a regular sized dress.

My dress is Ambrosia by Maggie Sottero, the sample was a size 10 and even with 5 inch heels it was still dragging on the ground, I believe they said this dress runs very long, so in order to avoid hemming charges I ordered my dress in a size 8 but petite so they can take the 3 inches off, I am 5'4.5 and going to wear about 3inch heels - I was hoping this would not affect the dropped waist, i have heard it does and some say it does not and I also hope its not too short either when it comes!
