OK, so I completed my DIY invitations and after hours of work the Post Office recommends I change them! Um, no! I have a wooden tag on the front of my pocket fold that ties on so it causes a bump. I also have real starfish down the side of the invitation that I’m concerned will get crushed during delivery.
Anyhow, orginally I was going to mail them in squre boxes oddly enough the price jumped 47 cents higher from when I first brought them to the post office a few months ago to my going back with the final sample in a box today. So now I look for alternatives.
No matter what because I’m over 6″ it’s considered a large envelope…fine I can deal with that. But now I need to find something that ships for less than $2.10 an invite AND also protects the starfish from breaking into dust in the mail.
So, is it tacky if I mail them in a white 7×7 padded evevelope? Does it need to be a formal mailing envelope if I have an inside envelope?
Thoughts? I’ve attached a picture of the inner envelope to show what I’m talking about.

How formal is your wedding? How about a white padded envelope with pretty writing and design on it?

I don’t think thewhite envelope would be tacky, but I still don’t think it would protect the starfish from being broken.

I think that is perfectly fine. Just make sure the inside envelope is more formal.

Holy cow your invites are BEAUTIFUL! I love those, could you post more pictures (if you haven’t already)?!
I would say the white envelope would be just fine, it may throw people off a little bit at first but once they open it they will see why. As much as us brides obsess with things like this, in the long run it is really no big deal at all

Thanks for everyone’s advice! I ordered white padded envelopes today. Hopefully once they see the invitation they won’t even remember what it was delivered in 🙂
@ Ms. Destination Wedding Thank you! I love my invitations! So much work though! I think I posted pics on the DIY page under Beach Invites but I’m not sure it worked! Here’s some more 🙂

I think it’s fine…I’m sure people will understand why they came in a padded envelope…perhaps you can dress the envelopes up as well if you have the time. People throw the evelopes right out anyways!
