I've had two reasonable quotes from two flute quartets and I'd love your opinions on them. I've listened to both and I'm leaning towards one, but I really need other opinions as I'm seriously suffering from bride brain!

    Both are MP3 samples.

What do you think? Alba or Allestri

I think you'd probably be happy with either of them, since they were both good.  I liked the second one better, because I thought the strings and flutes balanced better.  The first one seemed more "flute heavy" to me.  I still think either would be beautiful.

Bleh, I hit post once and closed the window.  They need to fix all these forum bugs.

I wouldn't say to discount the first because the flute overbalances the strings - that's just the piece - the flute is playing a big solo while the strings are pizzacato, which is always going to be much softer.  That said, it's hard to really judge the string players in the first recording because all they're doing is pizz.  Did they not provide any other samples?

I like the second one better...the fist one is just a little too choppy for my taste.

But as a former flutist of 6+ years, your pieces made me very nostalgic! I'd love to hear more!

@JenniferG:  They've only really got a few online. Here's another one from each.

    Alba - http://albamusica.co.uk/music/ragtime.mp3

    Allestri - http://allestri.co.uk/allestri-music/fields-of-gold.mp3

Okay, if you're going to say they both suck, at least have the decency to say why!

I prefer the playing of the second flautist.  In the first one, it almost sounds like he/she is blowing too hard at the beginning of each note compared to the end.  Maybe that's the notation in the music, but it isn't to my taste.

I lean towards the second group.  The flautist in the first seems to have a couple of rhythmic hiccups - they're subtle, though.  I think you'd do ok with either group, but yeah Allestri would be my first choice.

I'm going to go ahead and book Allestri as they're cheaper as well as sounding better.

I was going to have a singer (a member of my family) but he declined because he doesn't like the song.

Having emailed them five days ago, I still haven't heard back. I did meet a very lovely harp and flute duo yesterday which I'm considering now.
