I have tried on tonnes of different dresses, and always come down to two styles that I like best, but I have no idea which one I want to go for. I need to decide and then keep looking until I find the one.
I’ve attached two pictures from a recent try on session (I have been to about 10 stores, and this one is the first that allowed pictures). They aren’t “the one” but are given as an example of the styles that I like.
The first style is lace- always with straps and a bit of a fishtail mermaidy shape. It looks ok in this picture, but some of the others are a bit iffy on the thigh. Excuse the funny pose on it. I do feel like its a more fun style dress. I’ve tried on Monique Llulhier lace and it looks awful on me. I do need a lace style dress that has some boning and structure in to hold me in (I am a UK 12, US 8)
The second style is a heavy satin- still with straps, but very plain and elegant. The neckline on this dress isn’t actually the type I want. I love the classic elegance of this shape and it does look more flattering from all angles.
The actual wedding is a lunch reception at a country house hotel in England. We are having a civil ceremony at the hotel.
BTW_ I am only 5’4″- I am stood on one of those boxes which is why I look super tall!

Oh, I love both of them!
But I would say that if you don’t like the neckline don’t go for it. The thigh issue- maybe alterations or a different size? I’m not exactly sure what the problem is so I don’t know.

I personnaly love lace. If you are having an afternoon wedding I would consider having a romantic lace dress. Satin might look a little more evening.
Good luck in your search!!

I really love the lace. I do like the second one, the shape is gorgeous. But I really think the lace is more flattering. And I definately like the lace neckline too.

I love the lace. I think it looks fabulous and be a great choice for an afternoon wedding. I agree—very romantic and the satin would be too much for a lunch reception.

Both dresses look very nice on you, but the lace is more fun and flattering.

I love the softer look of the lace. I say go and try on some lace sresses that have a similar fit on the bottom but different necklines and see what you like best, but that one looks great on you.

I love the first one on you!

I’m going to be the different one because I voted for the satin! I love lace and think that they both look great on you, but there is something special about the satin gown!!! No matter which you choose, you will look gorgeous! Good luck!

A country house hotel in England sounds romantic to me. I would go with a lace dress because it exudes romance!
