So when we first got engaged I started thinking about wedding bands I looked into diamond bands. I always wanted a set like my mom's (solitaire ering, eternity band ring and plain band) but a little updated (I have an asscher, she has a round, my set is white gold and hers is yellow gold). Someday I will probably own all three rings, but I only want to get one wedding band. I was ready to get a plain white gold knife edge band that matches my ering because it is more practical and less expensive. However FI was shocked when I told him that and told me I deserve diamonds and "every girl wants diamonds". So now I'm back to debating which of three rings I should get. All three options would be custom so I haven't tried them on, but I have photoshop mockups.

Option 1: Plain white gold knife edge band.

This is the most practical option. However, I currently have a job where I wear a work ring (stainless steel band). So right now I don't need a practical ring because I would only be wearing the set at night/on weekends. I am concerned about the fact that my ering is thicker at the top than the bottom and whether the wedding band would be too tall on the underside of my finger.

Hopefully 2mm wide. I think this would probably sit flush with my ering. I'm not sure about how I feel about mixing round diamonds with my asscher solitaire, but I've never seen a knife edge ring with other shapes of diamonds in it. I don't want to ask for an ering that can't be made.

Option 3: Horizontal Channel Set Baguette diamonds.

Hopefully 2mm wide, but the skinniest version I've seen online is 2.9mm wide. Probably 3/4 or full eternity. I suspect this set wouldn't sit flush with my ering since other channel sets didn't sit quite flush. I'm not a fan of gaps and I'm not getting my rings soldered so I would only get this if the jeweler was convinced it could be made with no gaps. The second photo is a close up of my setting so you can see the prongs and the fact that there would probably be a gap.

I've also considered a band with asschers but the jeweler said it is very difficult to find them that small and they are deeper stones so the ring would have an even bigger gap.

If anyone can find a knife edge baguette band I would love to see pictures.

i think the bands you are looking at are a little thick for your engagement ring. They are all lovely but i would go with something that is a smaller width.

@Swizzle:  My ering is 2mm wide. I know the plain band would be exactly the same width. I'm not sure how much wider the other bands would be, probably around 3mm.

What about something like mine?  I have a knife-edge band on my ering and a half-eternity with channel set round diamonds for my band.  They sit totally flush.  The band is 2mm.

I only like the first plain band with your ring.

The other two do not look aesthetically 'right' to my eye.

I think matching with knife edge can be tricky, but I am sure there are some options out there that would look great.

I purchased a half eternity pave setting band to go with my knife edge solitaire.  I know there's not a lot of pictures of knife edge rings out there so I thought I'd post incase it helps.  :)

If this were white gold, didn't have milligrain and wasn't so wide....

The plain knife edge looks great with your ring but I usually love extra sparkle in the wedding band ;) Have you tried anything curved? It might look quite romantic!

I like only the first plain band.  The other bands just don't complement your e-ring at all.  How about a very thin eternity band?  Some people even have two on either side of the e-ring.

@Scintillante:  I did try on curved bands. They didn't really sit right with my ering. It  might be because they were so huge though.

@asscherlover:  That diamond band would look great in the right size, absolutely!!!

Update: I got the horizontal channel set baguette band.

I tried on the knife edge pave band and it was too overpowering. I wasn't happy with the plain band because they don't make a matching band and the way the jewelers wanted to make the plain band meant it would be thicker at the top than the bottom (so when it spins it would look weird). I tried on plain bands that weren't knife edge and they looked weird.

It turned out that they had a hroizontal baguette band in the store (which wasn't there last time I went) and I thought it looked great with my ering. I'm not 100%  sure it will sit flush, but it is much lower profile than a lot of the channel set rings I tried on. One of the other ones I tried on that was only a half size too big and about the same height sat pretty flush with my ering. So I'm very optimistic about how they will sit. It is only a half eternity so I might end up getting them soldered anyways if they spin too much. FI surprised me by saying I could get the matching ering but I'm not sure if I want it. Its a cathedral setting which I personally don't like, but I think it would compliment my stone well and I like the set otherwise. I might get a custom setting to match someday down the road that isn't cathedral. I didn't get a picture and its going to take 6-7 weeks to come in. I'm debating going in today just to take a picture to tide me over lol. The wedding set looks kind of like this (I have an asscher though).
