I am trying to decide between 2 venues in NY and can’t decide!!! One is the surf club in new rochelle ny which has a long walk to the gazebo but the gazebo is in front of water. then you go up to the 2nd floor in the building which has an outside patio for cocktail hour attached to main room with water views. LOVE the water views. hate the long walk and also place has mixed reviews which worry me. Also, if it rains ugly plastic curtains come down to protect cocktail hour., wedding in june so hopefully wont rain!!
2nd place marina del rey bronx ny. same exact price. gazebo right next to cocktail hour and cocktail hour has water view but glass windows so doesn’t matter about weather. BUT main room has no view and no daylight so it is much less pretty than the other main room. also, consistent good reviews.
how important is the water view from reception room?

@alison914: I think the second one is the “safe” option. Regardless of weather you will be okay there. We had our reception in a hotel grand ballroom. No windows or outside light, but it gave me the opportunity to use LOTS of candles to create a romantic mood 🙂

I think the second one… if your wedding will be later in the evening/at night, having water views may not necessarily matter as much anyway if it’s dark out? You can do some pretty amazing decor stuff that will make people not even think twice about a view!! Also, the guests will be eating and dancing and things like that, at most they would go “ooooohhh, ahhhhh. Oh look they are cutting the cake/let’s go dance/let’s go eat!” Just my opinion!

Just wanted to say I’ve been to Marina Del Rey in the Bronx for a party and thought it was beautiful. I think it’d be a great spot for a wedding, and it sounds like the safer choice between the 2, anyway.

Sounds like the second option.

What time is your wedding? If most of it will be in daylight, a view might be nice. But, if most of it is happening at night, who cares about the view?

yeah, i agree with pp. the second venue sounds like the safer option. you get the best of everything. a gazebo that is close, no worries about weather, a view for cocktail hour and then a nice dark, romantic spot for your reception. perfect.

Thanks everyone, it is a daytime wedding. so 11-5 so yes you will see the view at the first place… also, I am having the ceremony at the venue as well so that is taking place at the gazebo at whichever place I choose. thanks!!

Id go with the one with the better reviews, the water front view during dinner would be nice but is it worth it if the service is sub par?
