I like the cotton candy because they're cute, you can make them whatever color you want, and they're sort of decorative. I think candy apples would be a pain in the butt and messy (more so than cotton candy). Plus, if I were a guest I wouldn't eat them because all that stuff would get stuck in my teeth, on my clothes and all over my mouth/lips (yes, I'm sloppy lol). Popcorn would work, depending on venue/theme
A popcorn bar sounds like a lot of fun! My fear with the cotton candy and candied apples (although they are super cute and fun) is that if you have children coming you could end up with a lot of sticky little fingerprints everywhere.
The cotton candy swizzle sticks are SO CUTE! And who doesn't like cotton candy? It seems like it would also make the best visual display.
I like the cotton candy best especially for a summer wedding, June right? I think caramel apples would be better in the fall. The cotton candy is super cute and I think definitely the most whimsical!
If you're ona budget, how does the cost of each break down? Do you hire someone who'll do the cotton candy, popcorn, or apples for you? Personally, depending on the cost, I'd lean cotton candy or popcorn because people can carry them around and they're a million times easier to eat then candy apples. Also, i know more people who like popcorn then cotton candy or candy apples and the candy apples would be next to impossible for older guests to eat!
I'd go with the popcorn. Caramel apples are messy, and while I also like the idea of cotton candy, I went to another wedding that had a cotton candy machine at the reception. It was good at the time, but it doesn't last very long. I brought some home with me and overnight, it had dissolved and condensed into a hard lump of sugar (and I don't live in a humid place!!)!
I vote for the carmel apples. People will be taking them home so if they're messy there it's ok. I also think it's just different and unique!
the cotton candy is fun & festive, i'm a huge popcorn lover so that would be my pick, i think the candied apples would have to be packaged so that guests could take them home, i don't think many people would attempt to eat them at your reception b/c of the messy factor.
Here's something few people EVER consider: your guests with diabetes.
This isn't something people advertise, like an allergy to nuts or are vegeterians. Cotton Candy AND Candy Apples wouldn't be a good option for children OR diabetics.
Also, you can have flavored popcorn, also. Chedder Cheese, white cheese, caramel (which would be even LESS messy than candy apples and still give you the carnival feel).
Also, people would be more apt to take the popcorn home and/or eat it than the cotton candy/candy apples due to the hot weather....
speaking of hot weather... what about snow cones? You can get the small personal machines at wal-mart during the summer, and probably online, too. they'd be GREAT and have that carnival feel to it (and wouldn't be any less messy than the melting candy apples... unless you have kids around...)
instead of serving it in the paper cones, you could get plastic containers or something like that....
We're doing Carmel Apples but also having regular apples available too, if people don't want to have something "sweet".

Ok, I've been obsessed with whimsical when planning my wedding and when thinking favors, I keep turning to the "carnival" feel! But, I'm a bride on a budget and I can't afford to do all three of these so help me out bees!
