Hello Bees! As if wedding planning isn’t enough, the time has come for me to start thinking about my daughter’s 2nd birthday party. I’m actually quite excited! Last year, we threw a pretty large indoor party for her with an adorable ladybug theme (see avatar). We had a blast, made great memories, and I’m looking forward to doing it again!
This year, we’re taking the party outdoors. I just reserved a large pavillion (totally weather safe, yay!) on the beach and I’m trying to settle on a theme. At first, I envisioned a luau but after searching high and low for some great party supplies, I’m really digging another theme as well. My mom made a comment about a luau being a bit grown up for a 2 year old’s party but I think we can make it work if we choose to go that route. My brother is snubbing his nose at all of my selections and DH doesn’t have a preference so I need some help!
I figured I’d bring the fun to WB in the form of a poll. If you were planning a 2nd birthday bash for your sweet little outdoor/water loving girl, which theme would you choose?
Do you have any great toddler birthday memories? Any fun ideas to share (food, cake ideas, games, decor, etc.)?
Here are the plates and napkins I’d order for a tropical/luau theme:
Here is the pool theme I found that can definitely work for an end-of-summer beach birthday:
Ooh, I love them both and for different reasons! Thanks, Bees!

i personally dig the tye dye stuff, but I think the bright ball and summer theme will resonate best with the little ones 🙂

Melissa, you’re absolutely right. I think I’m drawn to the tye-dye decor because it’s truly bright and fun but yeah, I think it’s more of *my* taste.
The summery theme is more “child oriented”. We will be cooking out so it totally fits the occasion — beach ball favors, lemonade to drink, etc., and I think that’s why I’m so drawn to it now that I’ve found it.
Oh but the luau plates are really pretty, too, and they’d make for a very tropical luau. I can always save them for another event if I decide against them.
Thanks for your help!

Aw, little kids in grass skirts (with real skirts underneath, of course), board shorts and sunglasses could be too cute for words! But the summer theme gives you a ton of options. Either way, I love the colors you are using!

Champagne Wishes, tell me about it! Wouldn’t it be precious seeing little ones running around in grass skirts? I could do all sorts of inexpensive things for a luau that would be tons of fun and the games would be soooo easy (limbo, anyone?!).
But then there’s the classic summer theme that synchs well with a cookout. The beach ball plates are fabulous!
I’m going to wait a bit before finalizing. I’m curious to see what other Bees have to say now that the poll is split 50/50.
