Hi Everyone -
I took my mother to see the dresses at David's Bridal today and we also went to a few other stores. We found a fabulous bridal salon that has dresses that are beautiful and much better quality than the DB dresses - for less money!
After seeing those dresses, all of the DB dresses I posted about earlier this week are out of the running. I'm posting two new picture to get your opinion on (it is down to these two, and I hope to purchase one this week!). Please note they didn't seem to allow photos so I didn't ask, instead took pictures of myself without the flash in the dressing room. I was never alone with the dress zipped up, so you'll see that the waist looks funny - it is only b/c the gowns are unzipped. The waist is fitted similar to the other dresses I'd looked at. If anyone has a chance to peak at these and let me know your thought I'd be thrilled!
Love these. It's a little hard to tell sideways and unzipped. I think both are going to look great, and I do like them better than the DB dresses you showed us earlier :)
I think right now I'm leaning toward the one with pickups (which isn't typical for me)... but it looks great on you.
Which do you like best?
personally i like the first dress better, i like the detail on the top and the bottom compliments it well
My preference was the first one as well - though I'm scared that it may be more ornate than I should go for our venue - it's a historic mansion. My mom thinks # 1 looks like something for someone in their young 20's - and pointed out (again) that I'm 30!
In case anyone is curious - # 1 is a Da Vinci (8220) and the second is Ashley Jordon V470. I'd post the designer pictures but I can't find the second one anywhere, I've been searching all night!
I like #1. I went and looked at it on the DaVinci site ... it looks spectacular in the burgundy and silver! Not very weddingy in those colours, but spectacular. :-)
It's hard to tell, since they are unzipped... but, I think the first one is more flattering on you.
The second one seems to have a cut off line, which tends to make your hips look wider, while the first one helps to make your waist look smaller.
I thinkI like the first one as well which is surprising as I also do not care for pick-ups. Looks great!
Thank you! I'm still torn. I wish the pictures were better - I agree that the first one with the pick-ups looks much better in these two pictures, but in real life the second one may be more flattering. It's so hard to choose!
I really like #1 more than #2. I think that the detail in #1 is great. I love the bottom and the top. It just seems like the second dress cuts you off in the middle at the waist. If you like #2, I'd try getting an A line dress without anything in the middle. Maybe some pattern on the top and some pattern on the bottom to balance things out. That's just my opinion.
Thank you!
My first post with round 1 is here: http://boards.weddingbee.com/topic/help-me-choose-my-dress
I can understand the comments on the second one - it has slid a bit since it's unzipped and looks like there is a line through my hips - in real life the "line" is at the waist and super tight (without being too tight).
I like #2 in round 1 and #1 in round 2. I think dresses with pickups look really good on you.
So where are the dresses from in Round #2? Also David's Bridal dresses. Just keep in mind that alterations may cost quite a bit because the girl at my work who had her dress ordered at David's Bridal almost had to pay double to have the top, middle section, and bottom fixed so that it fit her better.
The second round is from a small bridal shop near my parents house. Both had been in the window - I stopped by after hours today (ok I am such a dress stalker) to see them again and only one (with the fancier skirt) was in it today. I still like it - but am starting to agree with my mother that it may not fit our location and is too "Cinderella".
I'd been really worried about the David's Bridal alteration costs too! At the bridal shop, the second dress fits so well that I will only need a bustle, the first will need to be taken in at the chest. They also have the bra and slips built in so that I won't be spending extra on those, at David's Bridal they were recommending $200 worth of undergarments!
Thankfully you still have quite a bit of time before you get married so you can still find a dress. Unfortunately, I waited too long and had to pay rush fees :(
Just make sure to get the dress at least six months before your wedding date and you should be set. Consider going to other bridal boutiques and more pics of additional dresses if you get a chance!
I think I like the second one best...but it is kinda hard to tell (and to be fair I tend to like more simplistic lines). However both look really amazing on you!
And if you need a second opinion on any alterations I'll be happy to PM you the contact info for the lady who did mine. They were $150 ($100 for the 3 layer full circle hem(lace, satin, attached crinoline) and $50 for the french bustle).
If you need another really relaxed botique to try other dresses to help you be more sure of your decision I would recommend Affordiable Bridal in Buford. They have a fairly mixed set of designers in a wide variety of sizes and were really laid back about letting you wander through all their dress to pick the ones you would like to try on.
They both look lovely on you but I think I'm going to vote for #1 - and I usually don't go for pickups either. That being said, if you feel maybe #1 is too ornate, #2 is beautiful also. I think either way you go on this you'll be happy with your choice.
I think #1 looks great on you! I like the way the pick-ups look on you; you totally pull it off!
I think you look great in #1 the pick ups in that dress really flatter you! And As for the dated look when you look back...i think that is great! I like looking back at pictures and looking at the styles and being able to notice around what time the pic was taken..but that is just me.. and who is to say that it will be a dated look anyway?
Good luck!
Of course I am going to throw you off since everyone else says number one but with out question I think number 2 is much better. Number one is nice too but it just looks like a wedding dress, not an amazing and fantastic wedding dress!
Thanks everyone! I am actually starting to lean towards # 2 as well. Though I'm forgetting what it looks like and this picture does not do it justice. I actually called the shop owner and told her I was torn and wanted pictures to compare over the weekend, and she is going to let me take them! So this Saturday I'm going to multiple dress shops, and will try these two on again, and may be posting a round 3 to this email.
I took another look through my wedding magazines and found that the pictures I am most drawn to are the ones like # 2 - I get tired of looking at pictures of pick-ups, so I think that is helping me figure out what I want too!
I like the second one better. I feel that in 20 years you'll look back at a dress with pickups and think "what?!". A classic line gown is better, and timeless.
The first dress is my favorite. The detail on the skirt is great, and it looks lovely on you!
i went back and looked at your last post and of all the dresses, love #3 on you... but #2 from this post would be my second choice. good luck and let us know what you pick! :)
The DaVinci 8220 dress is EXACTLY the dress I was looking for. It looks great on you. Where did you happen to find it?
I found the Da Vinci at a store called Sophie's Bridal in Duluth, Georgia. I believe the sale price was $650.
And I went with Anjolique 1010 (different from anything I had tried on and posted). I love it! It comes in sometime in October and I can't wait!
@TiMonica - realized this may be helpful - I went back to the salon and tried it on and since I was seriously considering it the owner let me take more pictures. Attaching them in case it helps!
PS - ignore that they are labeled dress 1 and dress 2 - it's the same dress, I'm just bad at naming pictures!
I'm not usually a fan of pick up skirts, but wow. It is so flattering on your figure-- definitely choose #1!
Beautiful :)
I'd have to say #1. It's definitely flattering on you, and so elegant :-).
wow~ i was going to say #2, but after the second set of pictures. def #1. looks great on you =D
