For some reason, choosing the BM dresses has proven more difficult than choosing my own dresses. Part of the problem is that all but one of my 6 bridesmaids (+ 2 junior BMs) are on the other coast.

So here's my dilemma - I went shopping with my one local BM about 3 weeks ago and we picked out three designers (I'd like to choose one designer/fabric/dress length and give the girls some options on the dress style). I love the the Priscilla of Boston/Melissa Sweet dresses and so did my BM that was with me. (She actually plans to go back and purchase one for another friend's rehearsal dinner if I don't go with that line.  - the other friend's wedding is 3 months after mine so re-wearing is great by me!)  My problem is that one of my MOH's and my FSIL aren't comfortable with the cost.

My other though was that none of the dresses I picked are carreid by the dress shop I purchased my dress at (I called to late to get an appt for that day) and in some ways it would be easier to deal with only one bridal shop.

So here's my question to you all - which designer should I pick?

    Option 1: Priscilla of Boston/Melissa Sweet Dresses (MS215, MS 309, PB316, PB324)

OPtion 2: Eden dresses (7211 with bottom ruffle removed, 7265S, 7276)

    Option 3: Alfred ANgelo (6129SN, 7002, 7072, 7073)

OPtion 4: STart over and go with your bridal shop (they carry After 6, Dessy, Alfred Sung, Bill Levkoff, impressions, and Alexia Designs)

Do you have to choose just one? What about letting the bridesmaids choose their favorite out of all of the dresses?

SOrry for posting yet again.  I should also say, I'm going for a cobalt/royal blue/sapphire kind of color.  And here's a pic of my dress so you see what it's going with.

@amandalynn - I thought about that but the color shades are pretty different between the designers so I think that might look strange.  I am going to let them pick the actual dress once I pick the designer so the options above are what they would pick from.

I would go with a less expensive dress- being a bm is expensive! try to find something all your ladies can afford!

What kind of size range are your BM's in? The dresses you picked are all very similar in how they fit on the girls, so that is what i would be concerned about.  Being plus size girl, there is nothing more awkward then having things hang out when you can't do a thing about it.

@TPHoliday - my girls are all over the map.  If you can envision a body type, I have it - petite pear shaped, average height apple, curvy plus size... you get the picture... Maybe I should keep looking...

I'm a BM in a wedding and we were in the same boat.  Bride wanted melissa sweet and all the BMs agreed it was just too much.  We ended up going with Alfred Angelo, (actually the last dress you posted).  The price was reasonable ($120), and although I would never rewear the dress it's not the most horrible thing in the world.  (warning, the dress looks a lot better in the picture.  in real life the fabric is a bit cheap but it doesn't necessarily look cheap.  it will DEFINITELY need alterations to give it that nice fitted look as in the picture.)  and if you do go with that designer, tell your girls to order a size smaller than the consultant suggests.  I was told I was a perfect size 4 by their measurements and when i got the size 4 dress i needed to have it taken in an entire size all over.

If your girls are all over the map, I would give them a color and a designer and length of dress and then let them pick out ones they like.

Dessy has a lot of really great pieces (we are doing dessy) and my main goal was to keep the dresses under $175 for my girls.

It seems you like the chic look of the dresses.  I would try Bill Levkoff, Dessy, & After 6

This one is a convertible so they could do different things with the same dress to fit all the different body types in your wedding party.  This one was a serious contender to my girls (all different sizes 4 11' size 2 to 5 5" size 16)

Bill style 527 looks like something you would like as well as 370

I really liked the Melissa Sweet dress that you posted- MS215 but I thought it was WAY too expensive for my girls. Then I found Bill Levkoff 370. They just came in and I love them! I'm not sure how the colors would work for you but you may want to check them out. I also like Eden 7276

I love the POB/Melissa Sweet dresses too but the expense made me rule them out.  We went with Watters and ordered them through Netbride....total score!  All the designs my girls selected retailed through bridal shops for $300+ and through Netbride they ranged from $165-$200 depending on the style the girl selected (all were in dupioni silk).  I don't believe that they carry POB, but keep places like Netbride, Pearl's Place, RK Bridal, etc... in mind for being able to get a higher end dress for less.  Also, my girls ranged from a 0 to a 12 and all the Watters dresses looked great on them as they were able to select a style that suited their body.

I liked the one Eden gown w/ the ruffle b/c it ties into your ruffles on your gown... (for the look, decent fabric and better price range) even though you would have it removed. POB designs gorgeous gowns, but the price? *cringe* AA BM dresses are okay in regards to style and quality, but just always in every wedding. I can always pick out AA and DB BM dress stlyes... lol. :)

I also agree w/ the different dress stlyes for each BM.

I LOVE the Melissa Sweet dresses. And I think if you order a certain amount (lke 4 or more I think) you get a discount. Is it possible for you to help pay for part of the dress cost--like put in $50 for each of the two girls' dresses who are having trouble paying for it? Also, have you looked at any chiffon dresses? I feel like that fabric might look really good with your dress and echo the floaty feel of it.

I voted for the Melissa Sweet dresses, but I'm biased - my BMs are going to wear the MS215 in navy for my wedding in May! I really like that her dresses feel less "bridesmaidy" than most other lines. Plus, how can you resist the fact that the MS215 has pockets? So cute! And the empire waist was flattering on a variety of body types.

A word of advice - I ended up using one bridal salon for my own gown and another for my BM dresses, and this really wasn't a problem. The salon where I got my gown offered me a discount if I purchased my BM dresses through them, but the second salon agreed to match this discount in order to get my business.

I don't know where you are located, but I used Bella Bridesmaid (in Boston, but they have locations all over the place) for my BM dresses and have been very happy with their service. I think the price for the MS215 dresses came to around $215 apiece... Hope that helps!

Bill Levkoff 370 has the empire waist, sweetheart neckline, pockets, and bow of MS215. I would definitely say to check it out if you are considering the Melissa Sweet for every reason except price. I wanted to keep my dresses around $150--they ended up being $170ish with tax (it's 8.25% here). I put about $20 towards each dress to keep it at the $150. Mrs. Penguin has posted pictures of her Bill Levkoff dresses as well.

I like the Priscilla of Boston/Melissa Sweet dresses much better than the others.  That being said, those are also probably more pricey than the other dresses.  I think as long as your bridesmaids are okay with the price, you should go with one of those.

My favorite dresses are the PoB dresess you posted, but since your MOH and FSIL already are uncomfortable with the prices, I'd not make them get those dresses.  I'd try to get a budget form the girls that they can agree on and then find a designer that carries various dresses in that under that price cap.  Your girls then would be able to pick their own styles in our color and length specifications.

Ask your BM's what their ideal price point is.  Is it under $100, between $100-$150, or over $150?  Then maybe that will help you choose.  I think you are best just picking the designer and the color.  I don't think that ordering from the same salon or all dresses on the same order is a big deal.
