I’m a long time lurker but this is my first time posting on the boards.
I need help deciding on a colour for the bridesmaid dresses. Our wedding is in late August and it will be a traditional semi-formal wedding. The ceremony will be in a church and the reception is at a golf course. The golf course is sort of rustic with exposed wood beams, stone work and an outdoor veranda. The colours for the venue decor so far are gold (gold chivari chairs with champagne linens and flowers/accents in various shades of pink and ivory). When it came to choose bridesmaid dresses the natural choice is blush pink but most of the BM’s are blonde and fair skinned and the colour made them look washed out. We started considering navy and we began looking at navy dresses by Mori Lee. It is a very dark navy, almost black. I thought it would be nice to have the BM’s in navy evening gown dresses with white flowers and the men in dark grey charcoal suits. I”m wondering what you all think of this colour scheme? I have some doubts because the dresses are quite dark for a summer wedding, the fact that our ceremony is at 1:30 in the afternoon so it’s a daytime wedding, and because there is no other navy in our wedding decor.
I’m wondering if I should just go with blush pink dresses to make it easier so that the colours all go together….
Would love your thoughts.

Amanda.Kok@hotmail.com: There couldn’t be a more traditional summer color than navy.

I think navy would be great, especially with your reasons for choosing it. If you are worried about it not being “summery” enough, maybe mid-length dresses could lighten it up? You could have them wear champagne or blush pink shoes to tie into the color scheme, as an idea.

Navy is a gorgeous color, I plan on having navy dresses for a summer wedding. Not too dark, I actually think it’s more appropriate for summer than any other season. Plus it looks great with more skin tones than blush would I think

Amanda.Kok@hotmail.com: Definitely navy. 🙂 I love navy and blush together, I think it makes for a very rich contrast and a classy, elegant look overall. It will go nicely with the charcoal suits, too.
Plus, if blush washes out your bridesmaids they won’t photograph as well.

Amanda.Kok@hotmail.com: I wanted blush in the beginning too. All blush did nothing for my fair skinned gals. Finally we found a cameo colour that worked but we hated the dress style. So in the end, we kept away from blush as I know both the girls didn’t feel it was the best on them.
I think navy in your case is a good choice. Have white or pink flowers and it will all pull together so nice.

Go with navy. Seems like pink is always the safe color, but why go safe!

I think navy is more universally flattering. I can’t pull off pale pink since I *am* pale pink

My wedding colors are navy, champagne and eucalyptus green, so I obviously approve! I think it would look great – blush pink can really look washed out on a lot of people.
