For our 5-year anniversary, I am having my e-ring diamond reset in an entirely new setting.  At first, we were going to sell my old setting as scrap platinum.  Not sure how much it would get us, but I was told it would end up getting us a nice dinner out (which I assume to be around $200 or so).  Now that I have it back, without the diamond, I have determined that I can't let it go since it's the ring that my husband proposed to me with.

So now I have decided to have my old e-ring set with a new gemstone, to wear as a right-hand ring.  However, I can't decide between: (1) ruby, (2) sapphire, or (3) morganite, and I need help deciding!  I am considering ruby because it is my birthstone.  I like sapphire because I think the color will look nice paired with the platinum.  And as for morganite, I have really fallen in love with the peachy-pink color of some of the stones I've seen on this site.  The setting will accommodate a 0.75 carat round.

Below are pictures of the type of setting, and the three stones for comparison.  (These are not the actual stones, but these are the color intensities that I like.)  I would appreciate your input as to what you think looks the best!  Also, if anyone has sources for loose stones, feel free to recommend (especially for morganite, as I have had a really hard time finding morganite rounds in a 0.75 carat size).  Would appreciate seeing pictures of your gemstone solitaire rings.  Finally, if you have other suggestions for a colored gem I should consider, feel free to suggest it!  Thanks in advance for your input!  :)

I'd personally go with the sapphire.  I think it looks the nicest next to the platinum color.

I voted Morganite, for the same reasons you mentioned.

    I would try Etsy.

what a great idea!   and a really good way to keep the ring that is so sentimental to you. I voted for morganite, just because I love light colored stones.

That's a tough choice and you can't go wrong with any of them.  I had never heard of morganite until I came across this site and I think it's such a pretty color that that is what I would probably go with.  Also, you don't see it very often IRL so I think it would be very unique.

I inquired just last week about selling my platinum setting and was told I would get about $150 bucks for it.  Yeah, I'm better off keeping it.

I don't normally go for warm tones, but all the gorgeous morganites on this site practically make me drool. I love how rich the stone feels even though it's paler than a lot of other coloured gems. You can guess where my vote went! LOL

Thanks, everyone!  Looks like most think morganite would be best.  I'm a bit surprised at that-- I thought that surely sapphire would come out on top.

Anyone have any morganite rings that are paired with platinum (versus yellow or rose gold)?  I'd love to see them!

I have to say that I myself am starting to lean toward ruby.  It's my birthstone, and I have always loved them.  Thought it might be neat to get a really high quality stone (untreated, and a nice deep red).

I LOVE the intensity of the colors you like for your stones. I am a huge fan of sapphires, so that's how I voted, and I also love rubies. Since it's your birthstone, that would indeed be a major reason to consider that.
