I’m about to start meeting with florists and I’m hoping someone can help me get an idea of what I should be looking to spend. I am in MD near DC, so obviously we’ll be paying a big city premium on whatever we get. I just don’t want to drop dead from shock when I go into my meetings!
I want fresh flowers put together by a florist. That’s about all I know though, no particular flower preferences or anything. I just know that I want reasonable sized bouquets and centerpieces, not like the biggest thing ever set on a table or a bunch of exotic out of season things.
This is what we need:
1 bride’s bouquet
7 bridesmaid’s bouqets
3 wrist corsages
flowers for cake
chuppah (the structure + flower decorations)
something for the ceremony that can be repurposed for the reception
I’m not looking for ways to try to save money yet, I just want to know what all that would probably cost me before I start cutting corners. And if anyone has a favorite florist in my area of course that would be helpful too 🙂

@TrousseauHorse: I think it’s going to depend on what flowers you choose. A bouquet made of carnations is not going to cost nearly as much as a bouquet of peonies.

Wow 17 centerpieces is a lot! I am guessing they will tell you around 3-4K. We had two big floral displays used at our ceremony that were moved in front of our sweetheart table for the reception.
ETA: I missed the chuppah! I am with the poster below me – 5K

@TrousseauHorse: For your area, and all of that, I am guessing at least 5k. The big ticket items are going to be the centerpieces and the chuppah. I am sure if you shop around and choose less expensive flowers, etc. that will help the cost, but from recent weddings….yeah 5k at least.

Depending on the types of flowers and arrangements you decide upon, since you are in a very expensive market, you easily could be receiving estimates of $4,000-$7,000 and up for what you’re seeking.

My flowers are costing 1200
1 bridal bouquet
1 flower girl basket
2 small bouquet for mob and mog
1cords age for grandma
Blessed mother flowers for church
2 alter pieces for church
Bows for pew ends
Id say yours will beabout 3000-5000 depending on the flowers you choose.

I would estimate somewhere between $3500-$5000 depending on your flower choices. And the fact that I have no idea how much they charge for chuppahs! Could be higher depending on how elaborate you want your centerpieces.

Wow just realized you needed 17 centerpieces… I’d say 4000-7000 thousand

Ok, thanks! That’s informative, depressing, and not at all surprising… I asked my photographer for a recommendation and the lady she likes has a $5,000 minimum for a Saturday night. My current budget is $3,000.
I’m not picky about flowers, but I sort of like calla lilies. Are those generally on the expensive side?
I’m trying to find old threads on what the cheaper vs. more expensive flowers are but I am not finding quite what I’m looking for. Mostly I’m finding people saying to just use silk or DIY. I still want to use a florist, but I want to maximize what I can get for my money.

@TrousseauHorse: Based on what we spent which is similiar in numbers and requirements to your list I would say $5k-8K depending on flower types and fullness.
We spent well over $8,000 on our flowers.

Although we arent from the same city, our numbers are very similar – we ended up with 20 centre pieces, 1 bridal bouquet, 6 bridesmaids, 2 flower girls, 3 wrist corsages and 9 bouts, 6 pew pieces, 2 large peony balls for the church which was then used for reception decor and linens & head table decorations. We ended up having to pay about $7000.

@TrousseauHorse: At least twice your budget. Calla lilies are pretty pricey unless you want to get them wholesale yourself. Plus they’re small, so you need a lot for impact. Roses would be a better bet, hydrangeas, or cymbidium orchids. Chuppahs are pricey. Our florist charged $2k for one we were interested in.

@TrousseauHorse: Cala lilies are on the more expensive side. You can go to a wholesale website like http://www.fiftyflowers.com/flowers/WeddingFlowers_3.htm and compare the different costs to give you some idea.

@TrousseauHorse: I am getting something very similar to you (just less centerpieces) and if I upped my centerpiece count to yours (17) it’d be just under 3000 for carnations and lisianthius. I found a florist who owned a shop for 30 years and had semi retired to doing it out of her home so she has no overhead (less cost!) so just search really far and wide!

That’s probably going to cost you a lot! I spent $360 just for the following:
1 – Bridal Bouquet
3 – Bouquets
4 – Bouts
I suggest looking for DIY ways – My mom planted dahalia’s in their garden this summer so we are using those for centerpieces along with baby’s breathe since it’s cheap! Your guests won’t even remember the centerpieces. Don’t waste your money!
I am also planning on getting some flowers from the grocery store the day prior and making some additional arrangements for aisle decor.
My budget for all flowers is $500. 9 days away!!
