I poked around her website and I think her wedding photos are lovely!  They are vibrant and spontaneous, I think she will do a great job of capturing your wedding

Don’t worry about it.  Compile a list of required shots and show them to her so she can see what you’re looking for!  You’ll be fine!

Yours looks great!!  I kind of had the same situation, but my photographer that I actually booked for the wedding is just ok, i found an AWESOME one for my engagement shoot.  The wedding one was a great price and prepaid to get the great price, the engagement shoot one I found out about too late, b ut love her and super happy w/ engagement pics.  The best part is the engagement one said that she could do some photo-editing and/or a “bridal session” after the fact if I wasn’t happy with my first photographer.

Oh Hilsy… I’m so sorry to do this to you, but better now than after your wedding. I know you asked for people to make you feel better about your photog, but I REALLY THINK YOU SHOULD TRUST YOUR INSTINCTS on this one. Is your photographer BAD? No. Is she especially talented? Not in my opinion. I’m not saying she’s not worth hiring, but I would personally put her value in the 1-3k range.

Also, no offense to everyone here who said they liked her photos, but perhaps Hilsy should post this question on a professional photography forum to get a better opinion. Some of her photos look underexposed, have harsh shadows on faces, or out of focus to me, and there isn’t just SO SO much work on the site that I can look past it as an anomoly.

Again, I’m REALLY sorry to go against the grain here because I know you were feeling better before I chimed in πŸ™

P.S. Just to give you an idea of what I’m talking about with the pricing, you should check out this guy’s work: http://toddframephotography.com

His images are monumentally better and his packages start at only $1500 last I checked.

I think the photos on your photographer’s site look pretty good.  My suggestion is that if you see specific photos that you like on other photog’s sites, save or print them and show them to your photog.  Your photog should be able to create replicas (either the lighting, the staging, the scene or poses).  Also, if you see issues with her shots, shadows, lighting, etc., don’t be afraid to point them out and ask her to explain what happened.  Since you’ve already paid, is there anything in the contract that allows you to cancel and get your money back?  If you’re unsure, then I would say you should consider trying to cancel and hiring someone else.   If that’ snot an option, then you just need to work with her closely to ensure that what you want is clear. Communication with your photog is key to getting the photos you want!  Don’t worry, things will work out.
