Okie dokie so I have always thought I wanted to go into the medical field, and I have. I am about done with nursing school and then wanted to go on for my masters and become a nurse anesthetist. And then it happened…the health care reform bill! Well now I really have no desire to pursue a career in the medical field. (SIDE NOTE: I am not wanting to spark a political debate just stating for story purposes) Something I have always wanted to do since I was a small child was open a bridal/ formal wear salon and with this reform bill likely passing and the shop in my home town closing because the lady is retiring it all seems like I should definitely just go for it. I was always really unsure about opening a business for fear of it failing or not making enough money to support my child and what not but its seriously a dream job to me. I am looking at commercial property and slowly gathering ideas and WOULD LOVE opinions…especially on a name. I don’t want something like “Precious Memories” or “Fairytale Fantasies’ or anything like that, I would love sort of an off the wall name that very modern and unique… for example the one I bought my dress from was called ‘The Andrew Jackson’ and its located in Jackson lol I would seriously LOVE LOVE LOVE any opinions and ideas. You bees are all so crafty and good thinkers and what better time to post than a post-a-thon **wink wink**

I’m going to throw this out there, but I’ve come up with:

Just a side note- I don’t think that Health Care reform will negatively impact health care jobs, especially, especially as a nurse… There will be more people in the system and therfore MORE need for you, not less. More need for you means higher pay!
Anyway, good luck with your pursuits!

What about Twirl? Since little girls always twirl in their fancy dresses

Man, I can’t come up with anything!
I also have a lot of friends that work in the medical field that are leaving due to the healthcare bill – you’re not alone! 🙂

That’s a wonderful idea, off the subject of names, but have you looked into the overhead you will need or have you done a business proposal for a loan application? It sounds great but being a TypeA or “List Person” I cringe at the details.
P.S. the best uniform I saw at a Bridal shop (aka the one I bought from) had the girls in NICE well fitting jeans and baby tees that read “We like nice Brides!”

@Cole B there’s already a bridesmaid chain that’s called Twirl, it may be bad/confusing.

Just curious, how does the healthcare bill affect job prospects in healthcare?
@shannon, Good luck with the shop! I would just say though, that a name is probably one of the things you should be least worried about at this point. I would focus on actually getting the business set up first, and when you have the specifics of where it’s located, the type of space you’ve created, exactly what you’ll be selling, price points, etc, you’ll be able to pick a fitting name.

Dang, it stinks that there is a chain called Twirl, I really liked that name!

I am trying to think of something so not wedding or “pretty girl” related. What about after anothe city or town some strong names could be like:
As a bride, I think it’d be fun when people ask “ooo where did you get your dress/veil/accessory” to answer nonchalantly “Oh, I got it in Charleston” or “I got it when I went to Olympia”

Dang I really liked twirl too.
As for other aspects such as overhead, location, etc. I have already looked in to everything I could think of, I even spoke with other bridals shops in my current area and let them know I wouldnt be competition but would love some information. Its going to be in my home town which is great since I know the are and what will work and have already spoke with the companies of the designers I would be carrying. I am currently commercial property shopping already with a real estate agent. I have already chosen a contractor to handle the renovations.

and I am not just name seeking…I mean I love all the ideas because thats so far proven to be a rock in the road for me but I am also very open to any other ideas pertaining to this topic as well. I mean I know my styles and tastes and what I look for when I go shopping but I would also love an outside opinion on what you bees like and look for.
