I’m from NYC/New York metro area.

  • Cash Bar– I’ve never seen this or heard of it happening here.
  • Dollar Dance–never seen or heard of here.
  • Bridal Portraits–maaaybe once or twice, but generally not so much
  • Groom’s Cake–I’ve seen this at a few weddings in the last two years
  • Jack and Jill Party (a.k.a Stag and Doe)–if by this you mean the one where people purchase tickets, then never.

Hmm can’t think of any practices that are common specifically in NYC…looking forward to the blog post!

Im from British Columbia, Canada and I have heard of none of these things and have never been to a wedding that has had one.

Oh wait..cash bar. I have heard of it. All the weddings i have been to are either low key wedding siwht free booze (no bar, just booze in buckets..not kidding!!) OR open bar for some hours and then a transfer to cash bar after so many hours.

I am from NY as well and I can say that I have never seen any of these things at any weddings. I think the only thing thats common in New England is that they’re expensive, lol!

I’m from St. Louis, MO (only attended weddings there).

  • Cash Bar – Have never seen it.
  • Dollar Dance – Have seen in once or twice.
  • Bridal Portraits – EDIT: I think this is less common.
  • Groom’s Cake – See this quite often.
  • Jack and Jill Party – I have never seen this.

At weddings in in which the bride or groom is from St. Louis CITY, there always seems to be mostaccioli. Weddings where the bride/groom are from outlying counties, not so much. It’s weird, but that’s how it is. Maybe it’s the big Italian population in the city limits.

  • Wedding: June 2010 - The Mountain Terrace, Woodside, CA

I grew up in Washington State, but have lived in California since graduating college, and I’ve never been to a wedding with ANY of these traditions! Guess they’re not west coast things, huh?
