A spa gift certificate. Mommy's get tons of gifts for baby, they'd appreciate a post-natal massage! : (6 votes)

So some of you may remember my pregnant coworker from another post. As it turns out, my gift enthusiasm got me nominated to collect a staff money pool and find her a present from all of us (turns out she's leaving in a couple of months but this is a truly special gal so we really want to do something for her before she goes.)

Yikes! The pressure! Which of the above choices would you most want? Mommy Bee votes are especially appreciated since you have been there!

FYI, she is not registered that we know of. She said her family is taking care of the major items like cribs and strollers.

While the meal service would be nice, I feel like there's no way to guarantee that family wouldn't take care of this. The basket of things is nice, but mommies do need to be pampered... especially after the get over the initial shock of being a new mom. It just seems perfect and not-overly-given to me.

I voted for the meal service.  I do think Maestro has a point, but if you arrange it such that they call the place when they are ready to start getting the meals, then they can wait until all the family casserols run out!

For friends of mine newly home with a baby, I always show up with food and they always comment about how wonderful it was to have a real meal- since it's hard to prep food with a newborn just home from the hospital.

if you have enough, i'd get a massage gift cert. (even if only enough extra money for a 30 min one)  along w/ a basket of useful things.  all of my pregnant friends have said getting a massage while pregnant is heaven and not something people usually think of, and not something she's likely to spend her own money on when she could on the baby.

If you don't mind me asking, what sort of gift budget do you have?

The Burt's Bees Baby Bee line is adorable, and since it's BB, you can be guaranteed it will be safe and smelly yummy!

Etsy has piles of great gifts. Don't these snuggly baby shoes make you want to curl up and die from the cuteness?! Same for these travel quilts!

You know, I'd like to think that everyone else will give her a ton of practical gifts.  But I also think a lot will probably say "well everyone else gives practical gifts, so I'll give this spa-thing".

I'd split the two.  Some practical or even cutsey stuff for the baby, and something relaxing for the mom.

Depending on how much money you collect, how about a new born photoshoot.  it would be a little more work for you to find a photographer in a particular budget but I'm sure that's a gift that most people don't think of and one will they will appreciate forever.

Diapers...it sounds boring but newborns go through so MANY diapers it's ridiculous. I woould say a few boxes of diapers in varying sizes and then maybe gift certificates for mommy and baby.

I'd definitely have to say a meal service for a week. I can't think of anything worse than being tired (giving birth is hard work! plus being up with a newborn) and trying to figure out something to cook for dinner.

Definitely go with practical. That's what I always give my pregnant friends. My mom said that was the best gift she got at her shower (back in 1986 of course.) But if you don't go that route, I'd pick the week of meals for sure.

I would either go with the meal service or something to pamper Mom with. Not every family provides casseroles and such for their family when someone has a baby so don't automatically assume that hers does that.
