I’m having a bit of favor anxiety. Altough I’m still a while out, I feel stuck in this one area and can’t settle on one idea!
A little bit of background: FI and I are planning an outdoor, rustic wedding for this coming October. We’re going to have an outdoor ceremony near a lodge, with a tent reception. I’m trying to keep things in the chocolate brown & ivory color scheme, since I’m using fall wild flowers and other fall accents. We’re having about 200 guests (with a reasonable amount of kids, which is why candy bar is not an option). I also kinda want something at least partially DIY, since we’re trying to do this without spending hardly any money. I also really don’t want to have to be making cookies, candies, etc the week of the wedding. To many other things to do!
Hot Cocoa Mix: This would be packaged in miniature mason jars (or similar containers). I could have a small square of fabric and raffia type ribbon.
Brown & White Sixlets: The original idea was M&M’s, but I’ll probably use these since Miss Stiletto found out you can get them for cheaper! Plus I remember loving them as a kid. I could put them in mesh bags, or burlap type bags.
Mixed CD: I’m a little concerned about how many people would actually take it, or use it. I could include FI & I’s favorite songs, along with things like our parent’s first dance songs, our wedding party’s favorites, etc.
Deck of Cards: This was actually FI’s idea. It might not sound very appealing to some people, but both of our family’s are actually very avid card players (his side has an annual pitch tournament!). People could also use them during the reception for entertainment.
Candles: I figure that most people would at least use them, even if they have our names on them since they will be small (2oz?) ones. Also I could find scents that go with the fall theme.
I would also really appreciate any other cheap, ideas that will fit with our theme!

Though I would probably go with the hot cocoa mix because it suits my style, it sounds to me like the deck of cards suits your style to a T… so I voted for that.

@doctorgirl: Thanks! That’s kinda what I’m thinking, I just don’t know if people would like it or not.
I forgot to mention, I might also add a breast cancer awareness bracelet to whatever we choose, since we were both really close to my grandma that died a year ago of breast cancer.

I voted for the cards too. But I think you could do the mix CD as well (and in addition). We’re putting a basket (or some other container) of mix CDs by the guest book- that way people can take them if they want to. Some friends did something similar at their wedding, but they turned the CD into a radio show with them talking to each other about songs between every 3 or 4 on the CD. It was really cute, and made the CD more about them and their wedding, while the songs are still individual tracks so they can be put on an iPod just as easy as a regular CD.

I voted for the hot cocoa. So unique and personal…and I’m sure people will use it sooner or later. My second vote would be cards. I like all the ideas, but those just stand out as the most unique. I don’t know if this matters, but I think that the cocoa jars could easily either be worked into the table decor or make a really cute table display on its own…which I think is part of why it appeals to me at least.

If you go the cocoa route, add some mini-marshmellows to the mason jars!

I like the hot chocolate idea. I would always choose food (or flowers/plants) for favor options as they are least likely to be wasted. I also think it would go with your theme.
In the alternative I would go for the cards – it seems like they would suit some of your guests well.

I think mason jars would be super-fun, especaily in Missouri! And you could do a million things with them if you wanted, or they are perfectly charming on their own. It’s something guests could use again, and yummy, edible favors are always a plus!

I voted for the sixlets. One of my favorite candies and they totally take me back to when I was little.

I like the idea of the deck of cards – useful and entertaining with some personal meaning as well!

I have never heard of sixlets. what are they?

I love the Hot coco idea. So I voted for that. I am actually giving those out this up and coming year for x-mas. Also another way to use the mason jars is to do your favorite cookie recipe. Just like you would put the coco in, you put the cookie mix in. Like if you are doing chocolate chip cookies. You add the different ingredients and add a cute tag with baking instructions.
But I love the coco idea!

I voted for the hot cocoa because I would like it, and it seems to fit into the rustic idea.
But the deck of cards sounds at least useful. Are you having dancing at the wedding? (If no, the cards seem like a must. They will really provide entertainment.)

hot cocoa fo sho. it’s something everyone (kids, adults, guys, gals) will all use and enjoy — plus i’m a sucker for cute food packaging.

I voted for the hot cocoa. . .it just seemed to fit perfeectly with your theme. But if you think that your guest would use cards more then cocoa; go with the cards. But al of your ideas are very cute!
