Just been through all the sites and I’d choose between Katya Nova and Caribbean Emotions.   CE has more traditional, “expected” shots, and KN has more creative poses.  I guess whichever goes with your personality.  KN has the technical edge, but KN and CE are, for my eye, both acceptable.  After I looked at CE’s photos I had the feeling I had been right there at the wedding, which was nice, if that’s what you want. KN has great colors and compositions to the shots.

editing post to add – I just re-read your original post and noticed you want high fashion which makes me lean towards KN.  Best of luck with your choice!!

Well, to my eye, A Capture by Karina’s work is pretty ordinary and a lot of the whites are blown out – perhaps a style thing but it bothers me.  I like to see detail in the whites, especially on a wedding dress!   PhotoPhil’s work has so much post processing done to it- vignetting and filters and way over-saturated colors.  I think it takes away from the shot when I notice the photoshopping more than the people!!    I’m a photographer but not a wedding shooter – so those are my thoughts and my perspective.

@futuremrsk18: Rule out those people who have auto-play music on their site! It’s awful! Kidding, sorta! 😉

An important question to ask is how they back-up their photos throughout the process of getting them to you. Personally, I wasn’t comfortable with anyone who didn’t regularly use multiple backups including computer hard drive, external hard-drive and a cloud-based backup system.

I also think it’s really, really important to be able to meet face to face or, at the very least, video chat so you know you and your guests would be comfortable around them. I knew that we wouldn’t like someone who is loud/aggressive or flighty/scattered and I may have not had a good sense of personalities without face-to-face meetings. I wanted a photographer who was calm, confident, focused and melted into the background when needed.

@Astra:  I’d go along with this. Phil’s pictures are massively processed which is fine if you want that sort of thing. Karina comes across as amateurish. Starting with only having a Facebook page rather than a website.

I’ve seen the MeetTheBurks work (dreadful name for a business!!) and they seem to do a good job.. I’d not, personally, be happy employing a photographer whose prepared to work for the cost of a vacation though. I don’t want photographers on holiday, I want a professional who charges for the job.

There’s some technically poor images on the CE website. Their work certainly didn’t leave me at all excited given the fabulous location they have to work in.

ETA: Anyone who has auto-play on their website should be dismissed from consideration immediately!

Karina – seems a little amature. Not a fan of the style of her black and whites – too blown out.

Phil – some cool photos but obviously heavily edited (not necessarily a bad thing, but you really need to love that style). An annoying amount are shot on an angle IMO.

HDC – Okay. Doesn’t wow me, but not terrible either. Although their site crashed my firefox twice…grr.

    CE – Don’t like.

Meet the Burks – these are my favorite personally. Modern looking, lovely colors, nice editing that’s not overdone.

Katya – her work is very nice too, but not my personal favorite. If you like the high fashion look I can see the draw to her style though.

do meet the burks want you to pay for 3 nights beyond the 2 nights they’ll likely require for working? if so, asking for the price of 3 extra nights after they’re off the clock + travel is about the same price as you’d pay to have them shoot it in NC.

the way they phrased it might be strange, but if they have good reviews, they’ll surely be there and be professional, and are willing to work for less (sure it’ll cost you the same, but they’re essentially paying their own travel) bc it gives them the opportunity to go somewhere they wouldn’t otherwise be able to go.

@futuremrsk18:  I can tell you what you aren’t really looking for and that’s photojournalism or reportage as it is known over here. Instead, from the links posted you seem to like a romantic and formal, posed style with a fair degree of editing/filters but not extreme processing.
