The first thing we did after setting a date was contact our first choice photographer. Unfortunately, that wasn’t fast enough and he was booked! I’m sad, but looking for photographers has been kind of fun. The only problem is that now I’m loving two of them pretty evenly. I can’t decide. FI doesn’t care (like, not even a little bit) so I need some help, if anyone has some time to poke around on these photographer’s websites! The pricing is within $200 of each other.
Margaret Belanger Photography
Engagement session, “Up to 10 hours” coverage, 2 photographers, Online gallery, high-res DVD with edited images, $100 print credit.
Forever Candid Photography
Engagement session, Eight hours coverage, 2 photographers, Online gallery, high-res DVD with edited images, 12×18 canvas print, DVD slideshow during the reception of ceremony images
Any input would be great. If it helps, we’re having a beach ceremony with a tented reception. Pretty laid back. I might meet with each of them, but I don’t want to waste anyone’s time either! Oh, and both also have great ratings on WeddingWire. Thanks!
ETA: I’m also open to new suggestions for Boston photographers under 3k, if anyone knows of a great one!

Forever Candid is the far better of the two in my humble opinion. I would tell you why but I no longer make photo-specific comments on the work of other photogs on these forums. Best of luck in your decision!

@PassionatePhotoLady: Would you be willing to tell me why in a private message? I’m crazy curious!

I looked through some of the second photogs blog and wasn’t very inspired to tell you the truth, but everyone’s idea of what inspires them is different.
You’re gonna have to go with your gut on it.
Have you asked both photogs to send you compelete wedding photos for at least two weddings? That’s the best way to evalutate the overall ‘feel’ they give and the shots they take/styles. I’d say after doing that you should know which one ‘feels’ better to you and seems like they would caputure your day the way you want to remember it.

Hmm. I think that the first photographer also has a much better portfolio, so it is interesting to me that the photographer who posted above thinks the second is so much better. I’d love to know why! Is it a personality thing? We are using Lisa Rigby for our photographer, http://www.lisarigbyphotography.com, and she has been AMAZING to work with so far. Might be worth contacting her – we are flying her out to CA for our wedding, so our prices are above $3,000, but I think she is below that for New England weddings.

All right, for the record, I did share my reasons for the original opinion with the OP, but I also only looked at the top wedding from the 2nd photog, and now that I’ve seen more I’m kind of balanced equally between the two.

I like the 1st one a smidgen better. I recommend meeting with both of them. We met with two that were comprable and the meeting made a huge difference. We both felt much more at ease with the one we booked but would not have known without meeting with both. It’s worth your time for more natural, relaxed-looking photos, and it’s worth theirs because they want your business.

I personally like #2 way better, I think they have better contrast, better depth of field choices, and they really seem to capture emotional moments better, but thats just my humble opinion 🙂 Good luck, either way I think you are going to have a fantastic photographer!
