Hi Bee’s! I need your help picking my venue! I will list some things that stand out for each venue. Based on picture and the few details I list which would you choose? They all have pros and cons and they are all pretty reasonably priced. I added some links of photos from photographers if you’re interested in taking an extra look and some pictures to see the full potential of the venue! All are ceremony and reception in the same place. I tried to include a picture of the inside of venue, outside of the venue, and ceremony area. I am going for a rustic/shabby chic look. I know the first thought would be the barn but I think they all have the potential to be transformed into what I am going for. It’s a fall wedding. Right now my vision is brown, tan, dusty rose, dark purple, peach with bird cages, lanterns, mason jars, lace, burlap, ect. I know everyone has different tastes so any comments or thoughts would be appreciated!
Resort on Lake Superior’s north shore. We both love Duluth/North shore. Opportunity for awesome pictures and has lodging in the same location.
Barn in central MN on a lake. Perfect for rustic/shabby chic. Lowest priced venue. Limited reasonable lodging in the area (1 hotel and a few resorts)
Golf club in the twin cities. We are not “golf club” type people but I’m obsessed with those chandeliers!! Decent amout of lodging near by.
Oldest Ballroom in MN. The pictures dont do it much justice but its the best ones i could find to give the basic look of it. I like the inside of this venue the least but i do like the trellis on the walls and the rustic country feel it has.
Thank you all so much for your input!

I voted barn, once past the outside its stunning and would fit with the colours ideas you have already. If you’re not “Golf Club” people, don’t do it, incorporate chandeliers in your centerpieces or something like that 🙂

Larson’s Barn or Withrow Ballroom. Love the chandeliers too, but it just doesn’t fit as well with your rustic look. Actually although you like it the least, I bet the ballroom would be easily transformed with what you have planned.

@soontobehisbride: I would say either the first option because it is right by the lake and would make for some gorgeous wedding pictures! But then if it rains, it could be really messy, wet, and muddy. But the resort looks absolutely gorgeous especially the ceremony area, that is so beautiful with the lake behind you! The trees would look gorgeous too along with the lake. And the lodge could still be used for that rustic look you are going for. Not to mention that the lodging is right where your ceremony and reception will be. Depending on how many people you are inviting, that is awesome! 🙂 Does the lodge do their own catering too?
The barn is also beautiful and would probably be the best fit for you in regards to your theme. From the pictures, the barn looks like it is really well taken care of beautiful with all the woodwork! In regards to lodging, is there a town nearby with reasonable lodging? And does the cost include catering? I wouldn’t want to get married at a place if there isn’t reasonable lodging nearby that doesn’t cost too much!
If you aren’t sure of any of these, I would keep looking. I love lakes and being near water so I vote for the lodge, but the venues you have looked at so far look like they are decent. It just depends on what you and your FI want. Good luck! 🙂

Barn or Ballroom. Beautiful choices!

I voted barn – I inititally thought it was a bit heavy on the darker colours in the interior, but reading your description of rustica combined with fall colours the barn really is perfect. I could picture it!

The golf club is GORGEOUS!

i love lake superior! the scenery is so beautiful and feels rustic especially in the fall with the leaves changing colors.

Torn between the barn and the resort due to the lodging… Eventually, I voted on the barn as it’s so romantic, but I think the resort would work just as well (love the fact that they’re both by water)!
And while the chandeliers are beautiful, I wouldn’t pick a venue just based on that!

- Wedding: September 2012 - Cabin
Based on your decor choice, I went with barn. I did rustic, we had a log cabin, because there were no barns available. Your decor reminds me of mine, so barn!

I would pick the barn. Depending on where you are from, Duluth could be a long drive for your guests.

@soontobehisbride: I voted for the barn because I think it would go well with your theme. Based on the pictures you provided, it looks like it could very easily be transformed into a gorgeous wedding venue … I especially love the lighting in the first picture of that venue.
The resort is a close second (so pretty!), but I think with a rustic/shabby chic theme you really can’t go wrong with the barn.

Im really thinking my top 2 are the resort and barn! Even though I love the chandeliers I shoudn’t pick a venue just because of that and you right, i can incorporate them in the barn or even the resort space. Im already looking into renting them! 🙂 Its going to be a hard choice!

@soontobehisbride: Based on your vision, I voted barn, but personally, I like the 3rd choice the best–that ballroom is just stunning!

I love the barn but if lodging is an issue that could be very problematic!
