@SilverStar7:  Congratulations!! It really depends if yall are going to pay for it all yourselves and the size of your party list. There are a lot of factors. Take your time. Do not rush, become overwhelmed and stress to the point you end up hating the planning process….

It depends on what kind of wedding you’re wanting. We’re getting married at 21/22 while I’m in grad school but we’re not paying for it so it doesn’t really matter. If you wanting a 30K 300 person wedding you might need more time to save than a small 100person, cheaper wedding.

@SilverStar7:  I agree. I had a 7 month engagement. Luckily we are only having about 60 guests and it is very casual. Still time has flown by and don’t have everything done yet. We are also paying for our wedding ourselves and everyone’s plane fair. Both FI and I have well paying jobs but I have been able to keep the stress level to a minimum.

@SilverStar7:  We had about an 18 month engagement with me being away at school and working the whole time. It felt incredibly long to me, and still feels like it’s taking forever. If I could re-do it I would have a one year engagement. I’ve never felt busy or overwhelmed but I’m not one to get stressed much. If you do things just a step at a time, get the big things out of the way then it’s really not bad. I have 3 months left and I forget about the wedding all the time lol I also changed my mind about things a lot since I had so much time to think it over. I’m not a patient person though so 2 years would drive me crazy but if you’re more patient then it might be fine!

@SilverStar7:  Y’all are still very young. (I’m 33 and my FI is 50) enjoy the planning

@SilverStar7:  I say go for the 2016 date! This doesn’t have anything to do with your age….I am even younger and chose a 2.5 year engagement. We have loved every minute of it! If you were open to a winter wedding right in the middle of those two dates, that’s what I would recommend, but I understand that summer is a lot more appealing.

@SilverStar7:  I’m not going to tell you what to do but I will tell you this: 17 months is loooooads of time to plan a wedding. You certainly don’t need an extra 10 months on top of that. We had 100 guests and a 10 month engagement, and I thought that was pretty long.

When we got engaged, I was 20; when we get married I’ll be 23!  We had a 2.5 year engagement and I just really don’t recommend it.  The wedding is seven months away and I’m kind of “over” the planning and excitement phase.  I’m just ready to be his Mrs. at this point.  I think an August wedding sounds like exactly the right amount of time, and if you both have good jobs you will be able to save enough, no problem!

I voted for the longer…for no real reason lol But then when I see you said in 4-6 months you’ll have enough saved up, I change my mind to 2015. Good luck!

I think Aug 2015 is plenty of time if you’re able to save by then. After the wedding, you can begin to save for your future.

@SilverStar7:  Go for the August date. I signed up for a long engagement and now, just pver a year in, I’m already itching to get it over with. We’re hoping to move it up to spring 2015 so that it’ll only be 2 and a bit years as opposed to 3.
