Please give me your opinions about when I should set my RSVP deadline. Here's some background information.

I'm getting married in my hometown in July. 75% of the guests will be traveling and staying at the hotel the night of my wedding. Most are within driving distance (2-5 hrs), but some will be flying in. I've read that setting the RSVP deadline anywhere from 2-4 weeks before the wedding date is normal.

However.... I have blocked hotel rooms at my venue, but all the guests need to reserve their rooms 6 weeks before the wedding date in order to get the block rate and guarantee a room (the block is removed 5-6 weeks before the wedding date). So I am thinking about setting the RSVP dealine just about 6 weeks before the wedding date, because if they have already had to book a room, then they can probably send in their reply. Also, I think it will serve as a reminder that they need to book their room by then. I'm afraid people would forget to book their rooms earlly if I set the RSVP dealine after the block is removed (like 4 weeks before the wedding date).

Knowing all of this, is 6 weeks before the wedding date too far in advance to set the RSVP deadline? Or should I not worry about making sure everyone remembers to book their rooms? Thanks!

I totally agree and we are doing the same! Although our venue doesnt require a final head count until 2 weeks before our rsvp date is 5 weeks before the wedding (1 week prior to hotel room block). We plan to mail them out about 3 weeks before rsvp deadline. It serves as a reminder for everyone to book their hotel and gives us enough time to follow-up with those who do not rsvp by deadline.

I think having the RSVP date 6 weeks out is a great idea.  Then if you don't hear from people when it gets close to that date, you can call and remind them that they need to book their rooms.  Guests can never be reminded of things too much!

I think that mailing them about 3-4 months in advance is a good idea too to give people planning time.
