My mom's from Minnesota, so there was always a conflict in our house about whether it was Duck, Duck, Goose or Duck, Duck, Grey Duck. She got odd looks from all the kids in my preschool when she asked if we wanted to play Duck, Duck, Grey Duck.
That being said, if you go to New England, people look at you funny when you order a pop. I lived in New Hampshire for the summer, and had to get used to ordering a "soda" instead of a "pop". My children will definitely learn that it's "pop" though, no matter where they're raised.
I have never heard of Duck, Duck, Grey Duck. That's too funny.
In Jersey, pop is called soda. When I lived in Ohio for 1-1/2 years with my ex, they called it pop and I hated it. They used to correct me all of the time though.
As an Italian near South Philly, I say gravy instead of [spaghetti] sauce. There's always a debate about that from others. J's parents say sauce and he'll correct them now. If it's cooked with meat, it's gravy. :)
My FI is from MN, I am from a state away. I say goose, he says grey duck. We both say soda (I think this is b/c we worked in the restaurant industry?) I had never heard grey duck before he said it haha. Good luck with your friendly arguement :)
@DesireeAnne:Oh my gosh, I could never call spagetti sauce "gravy". Gravy is what goes on mashed potatoes.
It's definitely grey duck. Just like it's pop, not soda. My husband is from New Hampshire but we are now living in MN where I grew up and he's now starting to say pop instead of soda.
THANK YOU!
although it still doesn't really work, he's sticking to his guns :)
It's pop and it's grey duck!!!
Anyone outside of MN doesn't seem to call it grey duck, but I will never call it goose!!

My SO and I are both from Minnesota (although he spent a breif 3 years in Florida as a kid). He just (jokingly) told me that if I didn't call soda "pop" that he would have to break up with me. That's fine, I say pop.
He said it's the same as "Duck, Duck, Goose. There's no such thing as Grey Duck". This is where the disagreement begins. As Minnesotans, we grew up with Grey Duck, and then get teased for not saying Goose. But if he is so firm on "pop" he should be the same with "Grey Duck"!
Am I right?
