I have a very similar budget.

  • We’re not going a dessert table, just cake.

  • The only “hors d’ouvres” we’re serving are veggies and cheeses during cocktail hour.

  • You could DIY your makeup, or have a close friend you trust do it for you.

  • If you haven’t already put down deposits for both, can you decide one just one: band or DJ? Do you absolutely have to have both?

  • Do you have to have a singer for the ceremony?

  • Is there a less expensive way to serve dinner (buffet instead of plated, etc?)

Hope this helps a little ๐Ÿ™‚

I’d cut the dessert table and just do cake OR dessert table and a tiny cake for cutting. Photobooth seems optional to me too. Take a look at the floral/decor budget and see if anything could be re-purposed, like could you use any ceremony decor for the reception as well? You could also do beer & wine instead of open bar, but I understand that can be controversial.

I would cut the band. People will have just as good of a time with an iPod.

@bretonvirgniia:  since you have such a good deal on the DJ the easy, though bummer option i see is ditching the live music.

Cut the live music and it will be smooth sailing!

Can you make your open bar cheaper? Just serve beer and wine?

I don’t personally like ceremony singers, so I wouldn’t miss that.

If you must, cut some decor and the favors….I’m assuming you’ve already shopped around for the prices of hair/makeup. Can the groom just get a trim at a barber shop and shave himself? Any of your girls good enough to do at least do their own makeup?

not necessarily a helpful comment but let me just say i am damn well impressed that you are getting food AND an open bar for under 3K.  bravo!

@bretonvirgniia:  Yeah, I was typing when you posted that before…haha. But it sounds like your big budget-busters are non-negotiable, so I’m not sure where you’re going get that 1300…you’d have to cut too much add up! How did your guest list go over? I’d be freaking out!

@bretonvirgniia:  I would cut back on the bar, just serve beer and wine as far as alcohol is involved.  Also, the photobooth isn’t really necessary–but fun. You could still have props, everyone has cell phones anyways!

No singer for the ceremony.

Either a cake OR a dessert table.  Or a desert table as I wrote the first time…that would be unique!

No live music, just a DJ.

@bretonvirgniia:  You can’t cut budget without seeing the effects in a few ways. So scaling back the budget also means scaling back on the vision a little.

Ceremony Rental fee $1,250
Dinner plus open bar $2,210
Hors D’Oueveres -$578 – skip this in favor of champaigne?
Dessert table – $300 (see wedding cake)
Wedding Cake – $300 – can you have a friend do this? I have my sister’s roomate making ALL the cakes for my dessert table (one big and three little) and for only cost of cake and a $100 tip (which she has told me she will refuse)
Makeup – $175 (bride plus all bridesmaids) – maybe asking the bridesmaids to pitch in for their own make-up wouldn’t be terrible – tell them they can do their own or pay? most of mine volunteered to pay ๐Ÿ™‚
Live Music (Jimi Jive 5) – $2,250 (See next line)
DJ – $100 – You’re paying for a DJ and a live band? why do you need two?
FAVOURS (homemade jam) – $100 (see next line)
Photobooth – $540 – a lot of brides I know are cutting these – they are past the fad and people have seen them before – what about skipping a this since you are already doing favors??

Just making the most minimal cuts (Dessert table, extra cake expense, 75 of makeup fee, DJ, and photobooth) you could cut 1615.

I know it would kill you you to do so – but if you have the DJ and budget is getting to you – I would think about nixing the live music. I know you abso. want this but budget is budget. ๐Ÿ™ Cutting this alone would save you $2250 (minus your deposit)…

Maybe it will be helpful for us to know what you have already put a deposit on/what you CAN’T cut since every previous suggestion you have already put a deposit on. In my opinion I would cut the open bar, the dessert table, the wedding singer, and the favours
