Someone wrote earlier today that you should try saying “hi” to the camera- give that a shot!

You’re over thinking it. Just think of things that naturally bring on a smile And above all relax. Maybe the camera makes you nervous. Don’t take selfies have someone else take the pics of you. Someone you’re comfortable around.

Try to connect with the camera with your eyes. Watch some ANTM!

I think more often then not, the shots will be candid shots, meaning you and FI will be looking at each other, or kissing, or laughing about whatever… the majority of the shots likely won’t be you guys staring at the camera saying Cheeeeeeese lol.  Just try and pretend the camera isn’t there, don’t look at it, and just focus on you FI.   A good photographer will know how to get those good shots

Stop widening your eyes. My dad does the same thing. Use the camera with a mirror right next to it so that you can see yourself.

Smiling on command is fake an unnatural.  The beauty of a photograph isn’t dictated necessarily by the subject smiling.  The fake smile is something we’re taught as children.  A good photographer will capture the real thing, and plenty of neutral expressions can be just as aesthetically pleasing.

PP’s have already given you good advice and I agree that candid ones will be more comfortable for you. BUT if you do get some where you need to smile at the camera, just have a laugh and your eyes and face will automatically light up and be more natural. Don’t worry about snorting when you laugh or anything, if that’s how you laugh then that’s how you laugh. Hopefully your photographer will be able to make you feel comfortable anyway though.

Don’t hesitate to contact your photographer about your doubts. In fact that is often why engagement shoots are so good, it helps you get used to having a photographer around before the big day! Although I was okay in front of the camera I sometimes found myself conscious of the fact my photo was being taken instead of being in the moment. What my photographer did was ask me questions and make observations at times when at the same time she was just taking photo after photo. It really helped relax me and I am sure your photographer would have the same sort of tricks

Also don’t forget to try photos at different angles. I have a really round face and therefore front on is NOT my best angle, more like off to one side. You should play with looking at yourself from different angles. Thats also where your engagement photos will help as you will see which angles your photographer captures that are your better ‘sides’

Practice in the mirror a lot! I used to do this when I was a teenager because I didn’t like my teeth. You need to close/squint your eyes a little bit or try smiling without moving any other part of your face. This often looks fake but it’s a good starting point. (your eyes are beautiful but they’re open really wide and make you look surprised) . Good luck. 🙂
