With most birth control pills you can start taking the next pack instead of taking the placebo pills at the end of the pack.  Just make sure to take the whole new pack before a new week of placebo pills (brown pills).

When I was on the pill and it was inconvenient to have a period, I just skipped the placebo pills and started a new pack.  It would be like the rest of the month- no period or anything- until the next time I took the placebo.

I would try to skip this placebo week.  On one pill type I got some breakthrough bleeding when I tried to skip the placebo.  If that happens to you, you’ll want to know so you can be prepared for the spotting the week of the wedding.

If you just go to another pack, you shouldn’t have a period, pms, nothing.  It will just be like when you take the normal pills.  You may have a little bleeding, but most likely it will be nothing.

You shouldn’t get pms or anything if you keep taking the white pills.  You can do a test run this month and skip your period.  It isn’t bad for you, the period that you get when you are on your birth control isn’t a real period, it’s just your body reacting to the hormones stopping because you aren’t taking pills.  I’m on Lybrel (the pill you take continuously without breaks) and I haven’t had a period in over a year now.  No negative side effects there!

Consult your gynocologist to see what you should do.  Since it’s the weekend, they should have a gynocologist on-call to answer any of your questions.

I have been on the pill for 14 years and have planned my period multiple times just skipping the placebo/sugar pills and going straight to a new pack.  It totally works and is safe to do.  My only advice is to take the pill around the same time daily to prevent any break through bleeding.

About skipping more than one month…I was told by my OB/GYN that there was no actual reason to have a period at all, but she recommended having at least 2 per year to make sure the process was still working and not messing with your system otherwise.  While I was on the pill, I would go four packs in a row and then take the placebos.  You should call your OB/GYN to make sure for your particular pill, but it is something they should be able to tell you over the phone.

FYI, if you like this method and start to do it on a regular basis – make sure that when they write the prescription they add a note that says “continuous cycling: 1 year = X # of pill packs” or the pharmacist won’t do the correct # of refills.

You will be fine!  Don’t worry!   Call your gyno and talk to her when she is available about it to get some reassurance.

I usually still get my pms when I skip, but then the day I’m suppossed to start it all goes away until the next time.  Good luck!

I would try and be very careful about taking the pill at the same time each day when you are skipping. I do this frequently and when I am off on the time I usually get some breakthrough bleeding. I also still get the PMS when I skip a month. You should also be able to make your period come a week early if you wanted to by missing the last active week of the pack (the week before the brown ones) that way you get all of the PMS and period out of the way before the wedding.
