you wont know them - but you can buy their album on itunes - they are local here in charlotte but getting bigger by the moment! their music was used on ESPN for college football over labor day weekend and i know they do a lot of touring around the southeast.
the band is called Simplified they have a few alubms - Smile, Elephant Sky, and Brighter Days - they kind of remind me of DMB in a way which is strange because im not a huge DMB fan. its good! i promise.
you can check out a few of their videos here before downloading their stuff if you want

@totheislnds: Oh, very cool! I love discovering new bands. Thank you for the recommendation! Which album is your favorite? Also, I like DMB, so that's a good association. :)
I listen to mostly folk/indie so that's mainly what this list contains, but I love giving out new music suggestions:
The Civil Wars
Fleet Foxes
Gomez
Blitzen Trapper
James Vincent McMorrow
Noah and the Whale
The Tallest Man on Earth
What kind of music do you like? Do you want fast? slow? dance? rap? country? rock? indie?
I'm really particular about mine, and I don't like a lot of the "popular" music out there.
Most of the new stuff I download is "Alternative". Decemberists, Hem, Ferraby Lionheart, They Might Be Giants, ... I don't have access to my itunes right now or I'd give you more :)
@KateByDesign: I'm not very "outside of the box" in my listening habits, but that doesn't mean I'm not totally open to giving new bands a try. Thank you!
@kala_way: Good questions. I think the only things I'd feel the need to rule out are rap and really heavy rock. I guess I'd characterize my current iPod contents as pretty "mainstream," but, like I said, I'm open. And clearly, all of my current music is boring me!
I like to listen to Death Cab for Cutie at work, since they are mellow and relaxing. I have their entire collection on my iPod. Any album is a good album to introduce yourself to them if you are not familiar, but the 2 most recent albums are the ones with a lot of radio hits.
I am a huge Foo Fighters fan, and I have all of their albums and singles as well. They are a good mix of acoustic and rock.
Some other work favorites are: Metric, TV on the Radio, and Young the Giant.
Did you ever try Pandora? That's where I found a lot of stuff that I love. They blocked it for us at work, so it's hard to find new stuff now since Pandora introduced me to a lot of it.
@soyjoy222: You beat me to the Death Cab for Cutie recommendation! OP, I agree that any album is great - My love for them started with this song and video, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=77We-tPmScs, from the absolutely wonderful album "The Photo Album."
@soyjoy222: That's a great idea, especially if they're work-friendly! I listen to my iPod primarily at work, though I also use it when I'm excercising, which requires a whole different kind of music. I will have to try them! My husband *loves* Foo Fighters; in fact, I'm taking him to the Foo Fighters concert next week as an early birthday present! I know I like their acoustic stuff. I guess I'll find out if I like the rock stuff as well!
@sarahbabs: Oh, thank you for the link! I will check it out now. And maybe I'll get hooked! :)
i don't know how into country you are but i'd definitely recommend the new group pistol annies. miranda lambert is a part of it. "hell on heels" and "one's drinking, one's smoking, one's taking pills" are my new favorite songs:)
and for something a little more alternative, i'd say band of horses.
Right now I can't stop listening to Foster The People's album Torches. It is amazing!
Ryan Star's album 11:59 is really good. Also, his band Stage that he was in before going solo was awesome as well. You could also check out Incubus, Them Crooked Vultures, Muse, Mute Math, The Killers, Better Than Ezra, and OK GO.
If you like Christian Rock, SouthDown and Poets of the Fall are two really good bands.

I use a Mac at work, so it's easy for me to plug my iPod in and listen to my music all day while I'm working. But over the past couple of weeks, I've noticed that I'm pretty tired of all of my own music, and I'm in desperate need of an iPod update!
I haven't bought music in so long, it's almost embarrassing. I would love to hear recommendations from you all as to what I should download so I can freshen up my workday soundtrack.
Thank you!
