sugarcloud:  What about putting a bezel aound your original stone? Do they do that on princess cut stones? I don’t think you’d have a problem with prongs. I don’t remember my prongs (previous marriage) ever being a problem.

Bezel-set or flush set would be your friend, but it limits sparkle. Half-bezel doesn’t, and is essentially just as safe as bezel, but with a cut with pointy edges, I don’t think it would work. Good luck!

sugarcloud: I have a solitaire with prongs, but I had to try on several to find one that did not catch on anything. Not all pronged solitaires are equal! I rubbed every setting I tried on the cashmere lining and exterior lambskin of my winter gloves, a sweater, hands through my hair, etc. I basically looked like a crazy person and salespeople gave me weird looks at every store, but I knew that if my prongs caught on anything, I would need a reset into a bezel. Since I didn’t want a bezel, I searched high and low, and found a setting with 8 prongs that lie flat against the diamond. They barely protrude, and as someone that wears delicate sweaters, rubs her face a lot, and always has her hands tangled in her hair, I haven’t had this particular catch on anything!  I suggest you look for a similar prong type. It’s really the next best thing to a bezel!

sugarcloud:  Hi. I had the MCo tulip ring you’re looking at (I lost it 🙁 ) and I found that it didn’t scratch. The prongs curve inward a fair bit.

sugarcloud:  It was a nice ring. I had a lot of issues in getting it with the company and what not but it’s been resolved.

Here are a few pictures if you’d like. I got a 1.5 ct (7.5mm) stone for a 6.25 finger. Personally I would have preferred a smaller size, like a 1 or 1.25ct for my finger size.

sarahalthea:  I wouldn’t consider changing to a halo an “upgrade” per se. 😉
